Starting solids

I know that it's recommended to exclusively breastfeed until my baby is 6 months, but my little girl TOTALLY wants to eat solid foods... she watches my husband and I eat like a hawk and sometimes even fusses while we're eating, even after I've nursed her. Today I held an apple I was eating in front of her so she could look at the color and she leaned forward toward it with her mouth open and her tongue reaching for it... cute, yes, but she can't have it yet. Has anyone else started their baby on solids? Should I try following her cues of readiness for food or should I stick to the plan of waiting til her 6 month birthday?

I looked at your profile to see your baby's age (4.5 months). Cute kid! Beautiful wedding pic! Anyway, I don't think there is any harm is letting her have a tiny amount of baby food. I started with cereal at 4 months. A very small amount of cereal! Then worked our way up to about 1/2 a jar of veggies a day then worked our way to a whole jar and so forth. Just take it slow!

I STARTED MY CHILDREN ON SOLIDS WHEN THEY WERE 6 MONTHS OLD, BUT BEFORE THAT I DID GAVE THEM A LITTLE TASTE OF SOLIDS FOOD THEN WHEN THEY TURN 6 THEY WERE FULLY ON SOLIDS AND BREASTFEEDING. THE MAIN THING JUST ASK YOU PEDIATRICIAN, HE/SHE WILL TELL YOU IF IT'S OK.

I agree with what everyone said. My son was also interested in everything my husband and i were eating. I started with the baby rice cereal mixed with breast milk once a day for a week and then twice a day for a couple weeks. Then i added veggies and he scarfs it down. he is almost 5 months old and i started the rice cereal right around 4 months. Your little girl seems to be showing the signs. Im so glad i started because my son sleeps so much longer at night! Good luck!

I started my son on baby cereal(mixed with breast milk) at 4 months without any problems.Make it very thin to begin with(slightly thicker than breast milk) and gradually change the consistancy. The only contradiction to this is if your baby has any allergies or problems with excema then you might want to check with his DR. first.Good luck and have the camera ready for some precious pictures.

Thanks! I agree, I think she's beautiful, too :-)

I started with infant cereals at around 4 1/2 - 5 months old and worked our way up from there too! I completely agree with what Sara wrote!
