Ok I am 7months postpartum! I had a 2nd degree tear which required a good amount of stitching. Healed up fine, but every time I have sex it feels like I have razors inside me!! Its completely uncomfortable, I have been to the doctors and she prescribed me eostrogen cream as she thought maybe the tissue just needed a bit of stretch. This did nothing and even inserting the pesary to use the cream really hurt! The other option is surgery a scar revision. Now she said there is not much point as when I am next in labour I am likely to tear again anyway but what does this mean, that I have to put up with horrifically painful sex until I'm done having children! What would you ladies do. I am so fed up now just the thought of sex makes me want to cry, I have NO desire for it anymore as I just associate the whole thing with pain. I want to feel normal again :( please help me

Beth, I had some tearing when I had my first baby too. (8 lbs 8 oz) Not 2nd degree... but enough.. ugh. Combine that with breastfeeding (which suppresses estrogen) and I had no desire for sex. And when we did get around to doing it... it HURT. Took 6 months before we could have gentle sex pain free sometimes, and more than a year before things started beginning to feel like they were getting back to normal. Happened again with baby number 2. I tore again. And even now, 22 months postpartum, things are better.. but not back to "normal".

Give it some more time. Try to do things with your husband that won't be painful for you (i.e.: oral... both ways). And yes, use a good lubricant every time.

Ah right! Yep my daughter was also big at 9lb. Hopefully all I need is more time then. Thanks for your help

This happened to my husband sister. Her son was 10lb.s(Big Baby) when he was born. She tore pretty bad like you. It took her a little over a year to finally heal. So your Area just needs more time to heal. I hope this helps.
