We live in a pretty small town, and we go to the library fairly regularly. Especially on story hour day, which is once a week in the morning. We have a vehicle, but we walk most places. I have 3 kids under 4-years old... it works.

We also go to the local parks... about 3 different ones within a mile. We also usually walk. This summer a group of moms (usually the same ones that take their children to story hour) meet a the park a different morning for the kids to play and moms to talk. It works great.

Also, 2 mornings a week, my oldest is in preschool... we usually walk her to preschool. Then, we go to a friend's house for our 2 sons to have a playdate and us to talk. My 4-month old just "tags along", and my friend is due in about a month with her 2nd child.

Look into playgroups or mom groups in your town. My friend lives in a small town and they have them there so hopefully you do too. And if your town is small, you can probably walk there. If you have family or somebody else close that can watch the baby, maybe you can look into working a few hours a day 3 or 4 days a week. Or make it a routine to take baby to the coffee shop for lunch every Tuesday and walk to the park on monday and thursday afternoons. Just some ideas. Don't let yourself get depressed, especially with that beautiful baby around! Good Luck!

I am in the same situation - I live out in the country with no access to a vehicle during the day as hubby has the truck for work so I'm stuck at home with 3 kids. I only got the internet recently and that has helped a lot, I also like looking at magazines, ordering catalogues (I got my IKEA one woohoo!!), even getting the mail every day is fun (I'm lame I know LOL). I also recently found my old cross-stitch stuff and am thinking of getting back into that (I haven't touched it in YEARS). But mostly the internet saved my sanity - especially this site! LOVE IT!! :)

I'm a stay at home mom, too. If possible invite moms & their children who are your children's ages over for playdates once a month. Maybe more if possible. That way your children can play & you have adult to talk to. If they arrange playdates at the other moms' houses, maybe someone can pick you & your children up on the way over. Usually, libraries have mommy & me programs. You call the library, maybe the can arrange another mom to pick you up if they're going to the same program. Maybe you can give a few dollars for gas. Going to the mommy & me programs is a great way to meet other mothers & friends for your children. That's how I did it.

Hi Amanda, i'm a stay at home mum too since 2005 believe it or not, I've got 2 babies now, 3 yr old and a 4 mo. old. I like buying magazines, especially with all different kinds of puzzles and it definitely worked for me as it stimulates your brain as well as keeping you occupied, also reading a lot of gossip mags ofcourse. Only now that I started chatting on the net which also gives me an update on what's going on outside.

I'm a stay at home mom too. I love getting mail and looking at magazines. I signed up for about 5 or 6 different magazines and trade them with my mom for something to do. I also enjoy looking for new recipes to cook. My favorite time of the day is when my daughter and I walk up to the mailbox and check the mail. I know I'm a dork, but it's just something little that brightens my day. :)
