The contraceptive Implanon...anyone?

First off, I WAS on this BC for just over one year & for me it was a year of HELL. It is an implant that goes in your arm. It lasts for three years. It sounded great. It seemed very similar to the Mirena, so I figured it wouldn't be a problem. I should have done more research on it, tho.

I just really want to know if any of you ladies have it, had it, want it, know anyone who has it/had it, and what you think of it. From the research I've done it's either you do REALLY good on it or you go through hell while on it.

I read somewhere the perfect summation for my experience with it & why it is actually a good form of birth control: I turned into a fat, spotty (acne-laden), psychopathic, depressed, very anxious lunatic with ZERO sex drive. I was the ANGRIEST person anyone around me knew. I was the epitome of the Psycho B----!! So, of course I wasn't going to get pregnant. And I did not have a period the entire time I was on it. It nearly cost my relationship, as well, and IMO should come with a black box warning!!

I am back on the BC pill I had been on for nearly 10 years before becoming pregnant in 2010 & tho I still don't feel like my old self, the excessive amount of ANGER and RAGE are gone.

Does anyone else have experience with this BC? :(

I'm one of the "good" stories I suppose...I am on my second Implanon (due to be replaced this coming December) The first one was in between when my DH and I got married and when we were trying for DD1.

The first time I had it in, I had ZERO periods (that was BLISS) :) This time around, I do have periods but they generally only last 3-4 days total. The first time, I also had a fair amount of water retention but this time, with a better diet and a slight increase in exercise, I am actually losing a bit of weight...Go Me :P Both times, my sex drive dropped however, after coming out of depression at the end of last year, it is on it's way back up again.

At the end of this year, I will be getting the Implanon a third time, at the end of which my husband and I will most likely consider our options. I don't want the Merina and I don't do well remembering to take pills on time, but I am well aware that I have a good 20 years left before menopause and am not comfortable being on contraception for that length of time. We may be ready for another child or two in three/four years time too.

I love the Implanon, and would keep having it for the next twenty years if I felt that it was going to be ok to do so...

One of my best friends also has it with no issues.

I am sorry that it didn't work for you, hopefully you will be able to find a method that you can also "fall in love with"

I was on it. I bled for 6 months solidly before I'd had enough and got it taken out.
