It took me time to figure this out, but I think you mean his 3 year old sister??

At any rate, even at 8 years old kids will do whatever they need to do for attention, be it positive or negative. He may very well understand, however that doesn't mean his attentional needs are any less. Tough for you as it sounds like you have a lot on your plate.

Try "catching him being good" and reward that with extra attention. That usually works. Or maybe try special "him and you" moments in the day or on the weekends.

Its hard to do, but the more positively emotionally responsive we are to kids who are acting out, the quicker they calm down.

Is also try talking to him about his feelings: "is this hard for you....?", "sometimes it can be frustrating when...." And affirmations "I still love you...."

Good luck!
