I put my 2 older boys, now 8 and 5, in their toddler bed by 18 months. I am changing the baby's room around and want to put him in his. He is very smart and understands alot, but the first couple of times I put him in his he just sits up and crys. In his crib there is no issue when it comes to bedtime. I put him in for the night and he lays there and goes to sleep. He is a very good sleeper however he will not lay down in his bed.

We had to start my son at 16 months becuase we had a new baby sue anytime. He loved his bed after he got used to it. Mind you though he only slept in a toddler bed for a short time then we moved him into a big bed (mattress and a boxspring on the floor). It doesn't hurt to try. You can also try putting his crib mattress on the floor and see how it goes. I know a lot of people that do that.

If he is resisting it then I would just leave him in the crib. Two of mine were in the crib until a little over 2. My third was 16 months but only because she was a monkey and kept trying to climb out! My youngest will be 2 on the 17th and has made no effort to get out, so in she will stay hopefully for quite some time!

My daughter wasnt in a toddler bed until she was 2 because i didnt think she was ready for it. Maybe your 3rd child just isn't ready for the change yet. Not all kids will be ready at the same time. Give him time to settle into it and the option of still having his cot available if he needs it, would be my suggestion :)

My son was 16 months when we put him in a toddler bed. The first few days he was fine then after that he would get up and not want to lay in it. Also in the middle of the night he would wake up screaming. He got over it tho. Then a week later we put him in a regular bed(just a box spring and matress on the floor for now so he wouldnt fall) and now there isnt any problems. Is the crib still up?
