Amanda - I don't have that problem, but my friend did. Her doctor told her she needed to create an association between going sown on the change table and something pleasant...whats pleasant for most babies? Food! Because my friend can't breast feed she gave her daughter a bottle or a rusk whenever she put her down on the change table for a week - this was enough to break the cycle, and ever since then she went down to get her nappy changed without a fuss. Hope this helps.

My daughter has started to do this recently at 17 months. Every time I change her nappy she starts crying even before I put her on the changing mat. She cries the entire time until I pick her up again. I thought at first it was because she had an upset tummy which left her with nappy rash so her bum was sore but that has gone now. I think now it is a learnt response. So I try to amuse her as much as I can by putting a few toys at the side of the mat so I can get the job done with distraction techniques. I have no answer for you really I am planning on potty training soon so I don't have this problem.

Try to keep a toy that she likes or a music box where you change her diaper. That used to work for my son. It would keep him busy long enough to change his diaper.

I always gave my daughter something to play with while i change her nappy. It keeps her mind off the nappy change. It also means that she doesn't feel like her playtime is being interrupter.

Children will always resist nappy change time and at times will reduce you to tears. however if you make it fun like sing a funny song while changing them they really don't notice that you are changing them till it's done. With my 2 kids, it was a challenge, not in the way where they cried but when you put them down and they fight you tooth and nail to get away, so i would tickle him so he would drop his guard and then keep their attention by asking funny questions or sing them a song..which they eventually joined in with. At the end of the day you don't want nappy rash and you don't want every nappy change to be in tears, harden up and change that nappy ! Good luck :)
