I am unsure how to play with my 8 month old son. Most of the time he is content to just be down on the floor, crawling around, and exploring. Any suggestions on how to interact with him or games to play with him, etc.?

My son will turn 9mth Monday, and I have found that he likes to play with his big sister (26mth) or explore on his own. He has started to let go and start walking, so he is getting where he wants me around much more.  Also, we went to the zoo and he found elephants.  Now he wants mommy to play elephants with him all the time.  Maybe you could find the one thing that really interest him and you might have it.

I usualy find things like shape sorters are nice but my boys usually did not do organized things like that. The would invent there own games and i played with them that way. Now i have a girl mybe after 3 boys girls play differently. She is 9 1/2 months old and just started crowling she is exploring all those places she could only see before. So this past week she wants to explore more than play. That and be in her brothers way while they trip over her and play around her she thinks it is funny.

Most kids I think play their own way... I mostly play around my son till he wants to play with me, I am always ready to interact with him anyway he wants to. One of my sons fav toys was boxes. playing peekaboo around a box entertained him for hours! I agree with the moms try different things some children prefer some games to others. Eventually you will find things that your son wants to do with you.

I do try to play with him, like with stacking rings, etc. Usually though he just puts a ring in his mouth or then puts it down and wants to crawl away.

Peek a boo, music toys that shake and rattle, mirrors, soft squeshy toys that can be squeezes and put into the mouth, all sorts of board books, stacking rings, shape sorters maybe?,singing and dancing together, you can even do art together with no toxic paint, or paint with applesauce or pudding, sand or water play. Oh my have so many! I used to be an infant/ toddler teacher and now stay at home Mom.

Have you tried shape sorters and similar toys?  My boys used to love them.  You could also try reading to him, dancing around the living room is always a good one my oldest is 5 and still loves it :) Singing songs with lots of hand actions.  Finger painting but that will get very messy but it is fun, just get one of those plastic table cloth things to use as a mess mat.

Hope that helps :)
