PS I boil my kettle full of water every night and use it throughout the next day. I don't boil the water straight before making up a bottle.

Ice can have germs. That's why they tell you not to have ice in your drink in countries where the tap water is not treated because the ice can make you sick. While the ice is frozen the germs are frozen but when the ice melts the germs "defrost". You could boil the water to steralise it before making ice out of it.

Whether she still needs boiled water depends I guess, I live in Perth Australia and it is well known that they haven't cleaned the water pipes in our city for over 50 years because we are always in drought (very hot and very little rain here) so they never have enough spare water to use to clean all the pipes, so we boil the water for our babies until they are a couple of years old. Not many people here drink straight tap water even though its supposed to be safe it is treated with too many chemicals due to the dirty pipes! Most people have filters.

Yeah since she's over 6 months she doesn't really need her water boiled anymore but to answer your question - Yes ice does contain germs because you can get "Bali Belly" from the ice in drinks at Bali, so one would assume it's not sterile

At 8 months the germs wont hurt her. If the water is safe for you it is safe for her.

i have a 3year old and to my knowledge using ice can also dilute the milk because it is water which can also have germs from the pipes that it comes out of. If you want to cool the bottle off you can do one or 2 things, you can boil your water ahead of time and allow for it to cool off in ur kettle it will still be room temputure and at the age of your daught that temp should be fine, you can also if the water is too hot you put the hot water bottle in ice water for a few minutes to cool it off, but i would not recommend it. i hope my advise helped.
