First of all. One thing. I have that EXACT sling and have no issues what so ever with it. People who do not read the safety hazards and all of the directions are the people that cause their babies to suffocate. Learn how to use it and you wont have any issues. I love my sling ♥

http://www.tinyslings.com/ I used a ring sling for two of my boys. You can turn baby toward your tummy with their head to the side and tighten the fabric so he/she is secure. Until they are big enough to face the front that is, which they love! I can see how the one in the OP's article would be a concern, but I think it just takes a little research and experimenting to get the baby positioned right.

i use the kangaroo sling i love having my baby close to me i hate using a stroller when shopping the most dangours thing i feel about using the sling is i have all my attantion on my baby playing and makeing faces with her (i walked right into a store sign) she never once looked like she couldn't breath and i've used it sence she was a couple of weeks old... if the baby is wraped in right there shouldn't be any problem
