Water birth?

My first child I had an epidural with (which didn't work) and thought that I would try it again this time, but now I am debating whether to try a water birth. I would like to know what happens during a water birth, and how it all works. How is the baby monitored incase something goes wrong? If anyone has had a normal in a bed birth and a water birth or an epidural and a water birth I would like to know how the two compare. Or experiences with only a water birth.

Any info would be much appreciated.

I really wanted a water birth with my daughter but unfortunaly the hospital did not have the pools for me to do it. But the method I chose is the bradley method which helps with breathing and visualization. The way the baby is monitored is with a hand doppler every hour or so to listen to the heart beat. They will listen during a contraction and then again with no contraction for any abnormal decelerations. When I have my next birth I will probably go to a birthing center in insure that I can have the birth I want with a doula. But another method you can look into is hypnobirthing. Hope that helps.
