Hey Dana, I'm from BC too. We have cordial but it's not really common or popular. You'll find it in the non-refrigerated juice aisle. It's usually in a class container...or at least the ones I've seen are.

At that age they only need breastmilk, whole milk, or water! maybe watered down juice on occassion. My inlaws gave my niece soda from about that age...by 3 she knew the difference between coke and pepsi...some people are just plain stupid.....sorry!

Well I always thought that your body needs water/fluid to process sugar, so if you are drinking drinks with sugar in them then you are essentially not getting much fluid out of it because your body uses that amount of fluid to process the sugar. I have always thought that because of this cordial is no different to soda or any other sugary drink. My baby only drinks water.

I would say never do it. My mum was told by her dr to do it with my sister when she was a baby as she couldnt have milk products. You have never seen such horrible rotten baby teeth. Of course my mum wouldnt of done it if there was another option at the time, or if she new what it was doing to my sisters teeth. When she had my sister there wasn't an alternative and told that was the way she had to do it.

It's a horrible thing to do. The poor thing will proberbly have to get her baby teeth pulled out because they will decay! My nan's friend used to give her grandson juice and that rotted his baby teeth and had to be pulled out. She never forgave herself for it too :(

I'm from BC, Canada and I have no idea what CORDIAL is? Anyone? My daughter is almost 17 months and besides breastmilk and on rare occasion some formula she's only ever had water! Babies don't need and shouldn't have anything else.......they're useless calories and very high in sugar!!

Yeah, I think it could potentially cause problems...too much sugar can lead to diabetes even in children. Even if not now, it's setting the child into a habit of wanting sugary things as the norm.

I personally chose to hold off until my child was 3 or so and he was becoming aware of what people around him were drinking things other than water or milk, but not knowing any differently he happily accepted juice very very diluted.

It's very much a matter of 'to each their own' - you can't tell someone how to parent (you can try, but odds are it won't do anything) - but with increasing numbers of children suffering from juvenile diabetes it pays to be cautious with your own child.

i think thats terrible! but then again i dont think kids under school age should be drinking cordial and even then i would keep it to a very low limit! also i feel babies should only be given juice if it's watered down. but everyone needs more water to what they are drinking sugared
