My daughter is 8yrs old and 10 pounds overweight. What can I do to help her now?

10 pounds over weight is not bad. Quit teaching your daughter appearance is that important. 40 pounds would be something to worry about but 10 is nothing and you are teaching her to be worry about small amounts of fat.

I was a chubby kid. my mom was a single mom, and I ate fast food and watched a lot of TV. When I hit puberty I started running, and joined sports. By 8th grade I had made the basketball team and got a fitness award. I wanted that change for myself. I now have 3 kids, I go to the gym regularly and ensure it is part of my lifestyle. My daughters go into the playroom. When we get home from the gym, they too want to "work out" like mommy. While I make lunch they do kids yoga, or even play in the back yard. Since we just had Easter I only let them keep half of their Easter candy and gave away or tossed the rest. They know about moderation and how consuming too many sweets is not healthy. It's all about the family lifestyle! Good luck, small changes make big differences.

OMG! Again I agree with Michelle Waldbilling.

Yes, children are children. They only know what is taught to them...mostly...

No soda in the house, no chips, nothing related to junk! Snacks should be fruits and veggies, nuts, healthy foods.

These are my rules.

I also make sure that we are always out...rain or shine..

I rarely put the TV on. However, I do play music all day and we dance to the songs we like on the radio. It's fun!

You need to be the parent and only have healthy food in the house and get her moving. Go for walks after school every day.

Yeah...I don't say anything to her and right..not horrible. But I see her making references to herself. Makes me feel bad but she needs self acceptance as well. I tell her over and over she is beautiful. She is :)...Me, as a parent, is going to put my feet down about junk in the house. Her dad likes treats. Lol
But 10 isn't bad. She is still a child at the awkward stage. She is ahead of a lot of kids her age in development. It may be just her body just trying to catch up. She's very active but doesn't turn down any vittle either. Simple thing as watching how much goes in. Thanks for saying so. It really wasn't a big deal just was a little concerned because she is my first and I did struggle myself until I became healthy. Good advice.....helpful

Melissa, I did the same thing. I have been keeping the lifestyle most of my life now. Hit a big obsticle. I had problems with my back and had surgeries and struggle with Fibro. The active person is within me and my girl is very active and I don't allow TV most of the day. I just need to make small changes in her consumption . She loves fruits and veggies. I can relate to your story so well. Thank you so much!!
