What age did your baby start talking?

I'd say about 8 months, before I heard anything ACTUAL come out of them. My older boy said Mom first, and my younger one said Da first. (He still calls him Da at 3)

My little girl started talking around 10 months, but I have friends whose little boys didn't have more than a few words at 2. It can be really frustrating because both the child and the parent wants to communicate, but they have a hard time making it work. I'm not sure how old your little one is, but odds are, they're fine. Talk to them often, use one or two word phrases, if possible, and be really patient. It'll happen. Mention it to your pediatrician, if you're really worried. Some kids are really well developed physically (can throw a ball, hop, run fast, etc.) but don't develop as quickly verbally. I'm sure you've got a totally normal kiddo.

my son is 2.5 and still doesn't talk...it's very frustrating , but we had him checked out and he's fine. i've heard words tho! i know he can physically talk, he just doesn't! his dad was the same way when he was little...
i'm preg again, and i'm hoping having someone to compete with for my attention will inspire him to talk lol

My son, 13 months, began saying "mama and dada" at about 6 months. Now he says, "car", "seee (please)", "uh-oh", "tan tu (thank you), "hi" and he does animal sounds. He does lion, cat, cow and chicken. He also mimicks the sound of a car when he is pushing his toy cars around. He also signs "more" and "milk".

By 6-7 months both my daugthers were saying the typical baby words, momma, dadda, hi, up, and a few others, but on the other hand my son only said mom until well over his first birthday, he is 9 now and still learning how to prodnounce some words. He ended up needing speech theorpy.

Both my kids didn't really say anything more than ma or da (and not consistently) until they were both 13 months old. But as soon as they said their first real words, they just kept going. My daughter is now 18 months old and is beginning to say 2 word sentences.

Beatrix mastered mama and dada between 7-8 months. She now says over a dozen words and will turn 1 on 8/2/09
