Potty was present for 1st birthday. Just introduced it to themand did away w/ diapers. By 16 mon when they start pointing good for things they wanted, started to establish a routine and tried to potty w/ every pull-up change, doing the mad bathroom dash when i know the have to go. All my kids were potting by 2nd birthday and wear new reuseable cloth training pants. The last one wanted to follow the others so bad we could not find panties that small to fit her. :-) hope this helps

I've had a potty chair in the bathroom since about 14 months. that was when she started wanting to follow me into the bathroom. She'll sit on it (clothed) when I go potty. Now she's 17 months and likes to go sit on it when I change her diaper or before baths. She peed on it once, but had no idea what she'd done. I clapped and got all excited for her. Eventually she'll do it accidently a few more time and start understanding it. I don't expect her to get it until closer to 2 1/2 - 3. My oldest son was 3, my next son was closer to 4. I found if you push them too hard they refuse. Just have a potty handy and let them try ot their own pace. I thought my second son was getting pretty old, but his doc told me 3-4 was very typical for a boy and 2-3 was typical for a girl, but that each child was different. Good luck.

I think this depends on the child, really. Many ppl start around 18 months. But a nice suggestion....if I may ,is to put the potty in the bathroom a few months before you actually start training. As this starts to peak their interest, and lower their fears. If you go to Huggies.com you can get a free DVD on potty training....neat huh!
