What age should my daughter be to use a pillow in their crib?

My daughters are 11months old and they are very stuffy and if they lay in bed with me they use a pillow. WHEN is it ok for them to use their own pillow? How old were your children when they started using pillows?

thank you all for your advice. I think I'm definitly going to wait to use a pillow.

My kids did not use a pillow until they were 3 years old. They moved into a twin bed from their crib at that time. I figured they did not need a pillow in their crib. I was not sure safety wise if it would be good to have a pillow in the crib and I also did not know body structure wise if it was healthy. I know they often say babies don't need a pillow and that it is better for their spine to not use one, but I am not sure at what age that changes. When my kids were stuffy and I wanted to lift them up a bit I would put blankets under the wheels of one side of their crib to lift up that side.

I don't know as far as safety, but I know I tried giving one to my girl at 12 months, then at 18 months, but both times she didn't want it. Now she's 2 and loves using a pillow.

When my daughter quit moving around so much in her sleep, around 18 months, I introduced the pillow to her in my bed first (we would take an occasional nap together) and then we put one in her crib just before introducing her to the big girl bed (around 22 months). I think it helped with the transition from crib to bed as well!!!!

Members of my family told me that they allowed their children to use a pillow at around 1 year. We let our daughter use one at that time, but she prefered her blankets and her bear, which she still favours at 1 year 7 months.

I think it veries according to child, but none of my kids used pillows until they were in toddler beds...because too much bedding in a crib might lead to death. It's kind of scary you know but only you know your daughters sleeping habits.

My girls didn't start using a pillow until they were 3!!!! It is too risky for them to suffocate, also its not good for their neck/back.

If they are having trouble laying flat put a folded blanket under one end of their mattress to elevate it a bit. This will give the same effect as a pillow but will be MUCH safer!

My kids were about 2yrs old, about the same time as they moved into a proper bed. I didn't give them pillows earlier coz my kids move around alot in their sleep and I didn't like the thought of them sleeping in such a confined space with alot of bedding.

I think I was told that pillows are ok from 12mths, the same as for doonas...but I what is recommended may vary between countries too.

If my kids had colds when they were still sleeping in the cot I would put a thick pillow (or folded up blanket) under the mattress so they were not laying completly flat. That usually helped and I could sleep properly coz I wasn't worrying about a baby with a pillow.
