My oldest broke when I went to the bathroom. I peed then when I went to stand up it broke. With my youngest it had to be broken in the hospital.

Mine broke on the toilet with both of mine right after waking up! I had a contraction (didn't know it at the time, just that it was a pain) that woke me up at 5:30am, figured
I better pee while awake, and as soon as I sat on the toilet, it broke...he was born about 15 hrs later. 2nd son...got up at 6:30 to pee, sat down, and same thing and he was born about 11 hrs later!

My first was broken artificially when I was stuck at 8cm.
My second broke spontaneously when I was 1cm and she was born 4 hrs later!

Mine all broke after I hit 10 cm dilated. The docs broke it with my first three, but my midwife left it alone with #4 and it broke on about my 4th or 5th push. Contractions hurt WAY more when the water is broken, so I suggest not letting them break it.

My water broke on its own with both of my kids and then labor came shortly after. MY daughter was about a week early and my some was almost 2 weeks early. Most of my friends who have kids had their water broken during labor at the hospital/birth center. I think only about half of pregnant women have a spontaneous rupture of membranes.

It can technically break at any time while you are pregnant. Mine never broke. My friends broke at 27 weeks- not good.

I agree with what the others of said, but also, it is possible to leak some fluid in which case (especially if it is weeks before your due date) you should go get checked out.
