I've tried so many different brands trying to save us money or what not, but the one I always end up going back to is ALL. Whether it's the big bottle from Costco, or the small and mighty, free and clear, or basic stuff, it definitely cleans the best of any we've tried. I worked at a dry cleaners years ago and my boss swore by the stuff. Darned if he wasn't right about it ;)

I switched to Soap Nuts last October because absolutely nothing was working to keep my youngest daughter from getting really bad reactions to any laundry soap we used. I actually wanted to try them, but was skeptical and then I saw this blog/review : http://www.mumsnchums.com/blog/product-r... and decided to give it a try. My mom bought me a 1 kg (2.2 lb) bag of the nuts (costs about $30), took a few out for herself and gave me the (mostly full) bag. It comes with a little muslin bag to put the nuts in, then you just throw the muslin bag in your wash - now I can get away with a single rinse cycle and my daughter hasn't had a reaction at all since I started using them, plus it cleans very well :D The huge bonus for me is that I still have more than 3/4 of the 1 kg bag left (7 months after I got it) and with 2 toddlers and a husband who works with food, well, I do a lot of laundry, so the cost savings alone are enormous, but the benefit of not having my daughter break out in a horrible rash every time I put clothes on her is the best bonus of all.

My kids are (as my husband puts it) dirt balls. LOL They can get dirty sitting on the couch. But I love Tide and Downey. I use the Tide prewash with the tide and I don't even have to spot treat stains anymore. For whites I do use bleach in the load as well. I use extra downey exspecially in the sheets and blankets. They are so soft. I cheat too I wash my blanket last and pull it out of the dryer right before I jump in bed. So it is still so warm and cozy my favorite.

I've tried several but I think I have found best stain removal for the money is tide. I usually buy it at Costco when it's on sale.

I have been trying different detergents. I was using Tide, but it didn't smell fresh to me. I am using Arm and Hammer detergent now and I love the smell it has. I have to be careful which detergents I use because my kids and I have sensitive skin.

I also use both powder and liquid dishwasher powder and odor eliminator. Our home is a bi-level type house and so downstairs we get that cold moldy smell in a summer, which causes my allergies to go crazy, so odor eliminator takes care of it all. I use it while I clean my carpets as well. I'm about to try the grapefuit seed and orange peel detergent as well as Free and Clear one, which should be great for summer allergies. I do recommend this particular brand, I'm talking about Biokleen. They have great reviews.

Well I'm into saving money and being good to our enviorment, SO I've decided to use Biokleen products, I found one on Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/Biokleen-Citrus-La...
I buy this set of 4 boxes and it lasts 6-7 months easily, and I have two kids, boy's 4yo and girl is 1yo, and a hubby who's truck driver, so his clothes get REALLY dirty. And this detergent is so far the best I've ever used.

I use Tide... but that's more because that's what my mom used. I'm used to it. I didn't see the point in changing. >

I used to use ALL, but now it is definately my Melaleuca! That stuff works so much better than national brands, costs less, doesn't wear out the clothes as fast, and is so much healthier for my family. The friend that signed us up for Melaleuca told me that after about 3 months of using their detergent, I wouldn't even be able to walk down the detergent aisle in the store without choking, because my body wouldn't be used to all those harsh chemicals anymore. I just kind of blew off the thought, until one day it happened. I've been using Melaleuca for a year now, and I don't even dream of walking down that aisle. Because the Melaleuca gets shipped to my front door, it's almost like Christmas for me to open the box!
*please don't take this as a business solicitation. Once I reread it, it sort of sounded like one. I just love all their products (especially the detergent) so much!
