I'm wondering if other stay at home moms have trouble keeping to a schedule. I have a 5 yr old in pre-k & my son is almost 3. It's hard to keep to a daily routine. any thoughts or ideas? examples??? thanks!!

i have a 14 month old daughter

she wakes up at 7am, then has a nappy change, brekkie is at 8am, then she plays for a while i clean up, around 9:30 is her morning naptime, then i do washing and more housework, 12:00pm is lunchtime then she watches the wiggles and goes back 2 bed around 1:00pm, i can then have lunch myself and get stared on dinner before my partner gets home from work :)

My kiddos are about the same age. My daughter is 5 and my son is 2.5.

We used to just 'go-with-the-flow' so to speak. Wake up, just take the day as it comes. However, now that it's school-time, we had to get a routine going. I homeschool my daughter, so it was a definite MUST to have a good routine. I always try to wake up at least one hour before my kiddos so I can get a head-start on things.

So, this is how our day plays out:

- Approx. 7:30am my kiddos wake up.

- 8:00am is breakfast time.

- After breaky, we all get dressed and ready for the day.

- Approx. 9:00 to 9:30 we start school. Consists of about 30 minutes in the books, then 30 to an hour of reading and games.

- 10:30am is snack time.

- After snack, we'll run out to do any errands that need to get done (grocery shopping, picking up stuff, etc, etc.).

- 12:30pm is lunch time.

- After lunch, my kiddos have the afternoon to play as they wish. I get done some laundry, dishes, vacuuming, etc, etc. I'll sit down with them and play here and there (they LOVE the game Operation and doing puzzles!). Some days we'll do our errands in the afternoon instead of the morning.

- Around 3:00pm is afternoon snack.

- I'll start dinner prep around 3:00 or 4:00pm (depending on what's on the menu).

- 5:30pm is dinner time.

- By 6:00 to 6:15 we're usually done dinner. After clean-up, I get the kiddos into the bath, and do the bedtime routine (bath, brush teeth, get jammies on, etc).

- After they're ready for bed and in their jammies, we'll read a bit from a book, say our prayers, and it's lights out by 7:30pm. 8:00 or 8:30 on a 'special' late night.

And that's our routine! Of course some days it strays away a bit, but that's life! I can say that having a regular routine makes life go SO much easier, and actually provides MORE time in the day!
