I was at home with my newborn daughter, and I spotted a gigantic roach that I wasn't about to touch. My husband wasn't gonna be home for an hour, so I grabbed a bottle of Bath and Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom body spray and used the whole bottle on him. It did the trick, needless to say.

Another time I saw these giant tentacles peeking out behind a kitchen sponge. I screamed for my husband and (and he's not scared of bugs) and he grabbed a hammer (yes it was that big) and hit it - the head flew across the room LOL. But at least it was dead.

My daughter is all about bugs and snakes on tv and in books. But she is totally freaked out by them in real life. She found a worm and was sooo scared of it. She ripped it in half then was pretty upset. She tried putting the two halves back together!

Second story - we had a ceiling fan, and all of a sudden here comes this giant beetle (and I mean GIANT); well the SOB hit the FAN which SHOT it down at me! I didn't know where it went, but then I found it went IN MY PILLOW! As I said my husband isn't afraid of bugs, but even HE knew that was screwed up. He got it, thank god, but wtf? I have one more but I'll save it.

What a great topic!

Oh my god, speaking about moths, Oh Jessie just reminded me of the Moth! the same day Jordan, my son found the spider (daddy long leg) in the shower he had an encounter with a moth also . Well right after the shower he got dressed and went back to his normal routine before bedtime, watch a Mario and Luigi video on youtube, and I was picking up the mess in the bathroom and mopping up the floor. again I heard another scream and jordan Yelling Mommy Mommy Theres a Moth by my computer! Kill It Kill it. I told him, Jordan a moth won't hurt, he's jumping and carrying on, I don't care kill it he said, I'm not going back to the livingroom. I checked out the room, nothing, looked all over, nothing. I went back to my room, he's hiiding under the covers in case it flies over his head, here I go again laughing, but really upset at him, what is wrong with you, what will happen if you go camping? will you stay inside all day, he said that's why they invented playstation mom, I can pretend I'm outside. I need to get out of this house, this place is too much for me! I just looked at him and he opened the door and ran upstairs to my moms place. He said GrandMa's is BUGFREE, IM MOVING, I'll come back when you kill the moth, so now, I call him, MothMan. I found the moth the next day, Dead- on the stove, yuck!

Haha! I was in a Chinese restaurant and there was this ENORMOUS moth- bigger than any regular bird. It was flitting around the light, which was bad enough, but all of a sudden it did a total DIVEBOMB at my husband. He's NOT scared of bugs, but a giant thing divebombing at you and yeah, you *startle*,

Funniest thing about it? The Chinese lady said (and yes, it hit her) said to my husband,"Why you so scary?"

I let a women put a boa constrictor on my shoulders. To this day my family still teases me about I was scared of the wrong thing.

When I was a little girl, for so odd reason I used to look at flies when the landed on the walls of the house in the hot sun. I would observe them carefully. and for some reason I purposed in my mind that the flies were babies and they grew up to become birds!

All these stories are great. Mine isn't about a real bug, but my family still gets a huge laugh out of it. To begin with I am majorly afraid of bugs and deathly terrified of spiders. When my twin boys were 3 we were visiting my sister, at this time I was potty training them. Someone had given one of my boys a spider ring, when he went into the bathroom I didn't think anything about it. He finally called for me to help him, I went in and as I bent over to help him I noticed something on his penis. I looked closer and saw the spider. I started screaming for my husband, when he came in he busted up laughing. My son had taken the spider ring and put it on his penis. I am still trying to live this down. :D

My son, Jordan (9yrs old) just three days ago... it was raining horribly here, tornado watch (NJ) anyway, I have to repeat myself about 100 times to get him to take a shower, well he finally went in. When we get rain, we get daddy long legs, and all kinds of creepy critters, in the house, don't ask how they get in, but they do. Anyway, He is finally in the shower, and all of a sudden -I hear a scream I said to myself, what the heck- did he get burned, I ran into the bathroom, and here he is screaming like someone is about to kill him, a sound that pierced my ears, I was terrified that he got burned, but when I got to the bathroom he was standing stark naked all bubbly slipping and sliding ( the Italian tiles- a no no very slippery) screaming, I said " What's the matter, did you get burned?" he said no mommy, theres a spider in the tub, I looked inside the bathtub, and it was a daddy long leg, I could not help myself I started laughing hysterically, because he's all wet, soapy and screaming, like its a tarantula or something. I told him, you are 9 yrs old, bugs are a boys best friend, he said mom, not in my shower , no one is allowed, only me i dont need anything peeking, or pinching me while I am singing in the rain! I just fell to the floor! he is hysterical! my son sometimes cracks me up!

Just tonight, my little 22 month old Madisen was bothered by a little bug flying around her head, she got scared and started crying and saying "bug, bug, bug". So I scooped her up and brought her into the house. She kept saying "bug! bug! bug!" I just kept saying it's okay, you're inside now. Then I finally looked down at her and it was on her coat! "Oh, Madisen, why didn't you say it was on you still." I kind of had a chuckle, even though she was still freaked out.

We were moving and my husband had thrown his old shoes out by the garbage cans. I went to throw them away and spider popped out from under the shoe and just sat there. I YELLED because its body was about 3-4 inches! It skittered away before my husband could react. He didn't tell me until a week after moving into our new place that he had been a tarantula. I hate spiders.

I was at my mom's house with my 2 year old and we were playing outside. My mom thought it would be fun to teach her how to catch grasshoppers. My mom caught one and held it in her hands, opening them so Norah could see. Then she let it jump into Norah's hand. Norah immediately ate it.. like ATE IT. We only managed to retrieve half of a grasshopper from her mouth. It was gross, but also pretty hilarious.

My daughter was playing with my husband while watching tv. She thought the bugs/creepy crawlies were funny, They were laughing and just being silly. Then my husband asked her about the bug in her hair. I've never seen her stop so quickly or stand so still. Her jaw fell and she quietly asked "really??" There was no bug. It was awesome.

Happened today actually! My daughter, almost 4, is going through this phase where she is afraid of everything. Shadows, monster, mannequins, you name it! All the doors have to be closed in the house 'so the monsters can't come out'. Today she was closing the bathroom door and all I heard was a terrified scream. I rushed to her thinking she was hurt, poor thing ran to my arms and clinged to me for dear life, crying hysterically; her little heart was pounding in her chest. When she calmed down enough to manage to tell me what was wrong between her sobs, she said there was a bug in the bathroom moving really fast. I opened the door to go look and the 'bug' was some strands of hair that was stuck underneath the bathroom door. The quick movement of the door dragged it across the floor. It initially startled me too actually, when I first pushed the door open. Poor munchkin, I had to stay with her in the bathroom for all her potty breaks today!!

When I was about 6 months pregnant me and a few people went out on a boat. Me and one of my friends stayed on the slower boat because we were terrified of the fast boat. So everyone else went on the fast boat, meanwhile they were gone for a long time and it started getting dark. Well me and my friend are terrified of spiders and guess what started coming down the top of the boat? A whole bunch of SPIDERS! There were at least 100 spiders of this boat so were smashing spiders big and small for about an hour or so. Then they finally get back and we find out we weren't anchored down and the radio caught on fire! Worst spider experience I've ever had! And needless to say 6 months pregnant surrounded by water for hours, I had to go! =]

A few days after Easter, I spotted a bunch of ants in my kitchen. My 8 yr old and I abhor bugs of any kind, so needless to say...he ran out crying! Lol I went over and saw they were all around and inside of one of the Easter baskets! After spraying and squashing them all, my 6 yr old says" Great! They are eating my Peep!" Apparently, he left one half eaten in the basket and all the ants on the block came to finish it! YUCK!!

When my daughter, Brittany was little, she carried this plastic lid around all day with a ladybug on it. She showed everyone, who would pay any attention to her,her prize ladybug! What no one realized is that she thought it was dead, so safe to play with.... After about 5 hrs, the ladybug decided that she had enough of being carried around by a rambuncious 3 yr old & opened her wings to fly away! At that same moment my 3 yr old looked down, realizing that her prized treasured, was actually a living thing, threw the lid & ladybug straight up into the air! Jumping up & down & screaming like a little banshee! It took almost an hr to calm her down & 2 years before we could get her to even look at another prized ladybug!! lol

I was in the bathroom supervising my sons bath, and handing them bath toys, when a huge bug that looked like a cockroach, zipped up and around the tub area. I was grabbing items to catch it, and screaming like a little girl. I had knocked it's head off, not on purpose and the rest of it's body was still trying to run off. So gross, and my heart was pounding. Turned out it was a palmetto bug, a huge cockroach like flying bug. I still do not know how it came into our bathroom. My kids were laughing so loud at me.

my daughter is 2. She and my husband went out into the woods for a daddy/daughter date. A week later, we found a huge tick in her hair. Everything was fine, we got her checked out, but now, over a month later, she's absolutely terrified of bugs, especially if they look like they could get close to her head. If she even see's an ant, she screams and yells at someone to "squish it!!"

I was putting my daughter to bed one night when a HUGE centipede came crawling out from under a book on the floor... I HATE THEM!!, and can't get anywhere near them to kill one. Well my daughter who is three, seen it on the floor, went " EWWW YUCK" then ran to the bathroom, only to come back with an empty pill jug and a tissue. She was going to squish it and wipe it up for me. It was too cute, and funny.

I had just turned sixteen and my stepdad let me DRIVE his precious truck to town to pick up the hawg scraps. I've driven about six of the seven miles, just now coming into town when something tickled me on my shin...I brushed it with my hand and it was HEAVY! A big ol' locust dragon looking creature was about to eat my leg! He was green with these monster legs that stuck out over his head. He was better than two inches long and you could SEE the muscle definition in his legs! I freaked out and went to brushing and flapping and kicking....and my stepfather's beautiful well loved just painted recently pinstriped Ford Explorer F100 careened across the country asphalt sideways and when it hit the sand along the sides of the road it straightened up the wheel and lurched the truck straight into a pine tree about two foot wide.
That was 22 years ago...my mother still asks people riding with me to drive instead of letting me. Even in my own car.

Let me start out by saying, I'm TERRIFIED of spiders due to a previous horseback riding experience... When I was 17 I had just returned from a horseback riding event and I was sitting on the ground talking to the rest of my barn buddies (other teens, parents, and other horse owners - guys and girls). I was still in my riding boots, but after getting my horse settled in, I changed into my jeans which had been in the tack area of my horse trailer. So, while I was talking I had an itch on the inside of my leg. I pulled up my pant leg to about my knee when a spider about the size of a quarter climbed out from my pants, onto my leg and back UP INTO my pants! I stripped from the waist down in less than three seconds all while dancing and jumping up and down screaming and crying to get it off of me. I ran away from my jeans, socks, and boots and cried on my horse in her stall until my mom brought me a pair of shorts... from home. Lets just say, 1. I never left my jeans in my tack area again and 2. I realized that panty lines in an event, were better than risking another spider incident while wearing thongs.

My daughter was in the front yard playing in the dirt when she picked up a black and yellow grasshopper and bit it's butt. It started to ooze puss and she looked at me and yelled "yucky yucky" then proceeded to start crying and trying to kiss the bug and tell it sorry. I had all that I could do not to laugh at her.

When I was in Florida we would step on those large wolf spiders down there, you know the ones that get to be the size of your palm. Anyway I steped on a large one when wham a swarm of babis that had been riding its back shot off of it in a ring . three hundred and sixty degrees of eight legged creepy crawleys running for the hills. My sister, who is now practically phobic, almost had a heart attach. Even my brother jumped on a lawn chair and screamed like a little girl.

Since everyone has told such funny stories, I'll share one not so funny story. Lol.

When my son was two years old, we were grilling and watching the kids play outside. My son started to get into his little peddle-car, stopped and grabbed something on the seat, then sat down, still clutching whatever it was. A few minutes later, he came up to me and calmly said something like, "Mama, did you know blueberries can bite?" I asked him what he meant, and he opened his hand to show me a very pregnant black widow spider! Her swollen abdomen had indeed taken on a bluish tint, but as an entomology hobbyist, there was no doubt it was a Latrodectus! We rushed him into the ER where they treated him with an oxygen mask to help his labored breathing, but didn't need to give him the antivenom, thank goodness. (in our area, where rattlesnakes are common, doctors avoid giving anti-venom unless absolutely necessary since a dose during childhood can reduce the effectiveness of it later in life.) Now, two years later, he is happy and healthy and as much a bug enthusiast as I am! He knows all about black widows now, as does my 2 year old, and my one year old is learning! The only lasting effect he has is a droopy eyelid, which doctors say should be barely noticeable by adulthood, and can't absolutely be linked to the bite, though it is the only plausible explanation we have as he lost control of that eyelid shortly after being bitten and never had the droop before then.

Max was sick and resting in his room when he called me in to tell me there was a dragonfly over by the wall! Needless to say, it wasn't a dragonfly, but just a harmless mosquito eater - a good bug! It was just too cute that he thought it was a dragonfly and had to have me look under everything to find it. Oh, kids!

This story doesn't involve my kids but its too funny not to share here...My father and stepmother live in South Florida, where there are radioactive (jk) cockroaches/palmetto bugs. These things, if you've never seen one, are frickin huge and they fly! They are everywhere and you can't keep them out of your house. I am horrified by them but my stepmother, who incidentally has lived in S. Florida here entire life, if TERRIFIED of them. So whenever Dad or i would find one in the house, the order of the day was to quietly and quickly get it out of the house without her knowledge. Welllllll, one day I found one and my stepmother was in another room so Dad set about shooing it outside (why he didn't kill it is anyone's guess.) We were making good progress when my stepmom decided to find out what we were up to. Right as she came down the hall, the palmetto bug took flight and flew right into her hair! Dad and I couldn't do anything but stand there and stare at it until she started screaming. Oh good times good times....but not for her. lol I thought she was going to have a coronary!

Well about 3 weeks ago our family was walking into Walmart and our oldest daughter, Avalynn saw a dying dragonfly by the walkway. She slowly walked towards it crying picked the little thing up and with everystep towards to "safe spot" by the door told the bug that it was going to be ok. She told me "momma I make him all better?" She put it by the wall blew it a kiss and said "goodbye bug, I love you!"

When J was a baby, we were sitting under a dogwood playing in the grass when a little green spider swung down on its web. They are harmless, but they look really cool b/c they are like neon green.

I said "Look J, see the little spider?" thinking he would enjoy the bright color and I could tell him something about how spiders help us.

Before I could react, he just reached out, shoved it in his mouth and swallowed.

He ate it!!!!!

It only took a split second! I was terrified and took him immediately to the Pediatrician where they all got a good laugh.....it's ok if your kid eats a green spider :P

My eldest son has been known to take off his clothes in the middle of a very busy tourist attraction because he thought a wasp flew down his shirt. Not only did he do that but he then stamped all over his clothes to make sure the wasp was dead, before realising that everybody was watching him. He was about 13 at the time and walked around for the rest of a day with shoe marks all over his clothes.
