What to do when he wakes up at night?

My son is now 9 months old. When he was younger the only way we could get him to sleep was to put him in his swing at night. He would sleep all night long (or at least didn't fuss when he woke up and put himself back to sleep). We broke him of this when he was around 4 or 5 months old and finally managed to get him to sleep in his crib. He usually does very good and will sleep all night. However about once or twice a week he will wake up in the middle of the night and fuss and fuss and fuss until we come get him and rock him back to sleep. He will usually stay asleep after this but sometimes as soon as he hits the mattress he will wake back up. I've tried letting several of the sleep techniques to help him go back to sleep. He puts himself to sleep for his naps just fine usually, so I don't get it why he cannot put himself back to sleep at night.

Help! My husband can not go back to sleep after the lo wakes up in the middle of the night.

With my lil guy there a few things we do sometimes just tapping his bum will get him back to sleep we also bought a frog from Walmart has stars on its back with red blue or green lights and plays 5 or six lil songs that has been one on the best buys we could have made...I strongly suggest buying one... also if the swing did it when he was younger then you may need to get your hands on a rocking chair.... could be hes hungry....if hes on a bottle and i guess depending on how well hes doing with it (holding it on his own) you could give him that and he could fall asleep drinking it.... hope some of this helps and if I think of more ill let you know.
