I have a 3 year old and twin babies that I stay at home with and my 3 year old watches entirely too much TV. I need advice on what to do with her all day. We can't go out so it has to be home activities - where I live prevents us from doing anything outside.

That's rough, I hope you feel more energy soon.

My 3 year old really likes standing at the sink with a sieve, funnels, plastic cups, pebbles, bits of wood, etc. He can play for an hour like that, and at the end of it, the mess is just water, so wipe it up and it's done.

He also likes it when I put his same old toys in a different context, like taking his train set and putting it in a different room with a small bowl of raisins and cheerios beside it for transporting and eating, or putting a bunch of small stuffed animals in a box that has some holes for them to "walk" in and out of.

Also, he has just gotten to the point where books on tape are starting to appeal to him. It's funny, our library still has a bunch of cassette tapes with the "bing" sound to turn the page, and luckily we have a tape player, so we're all set.

I have been trying to make a schedule so that our days have some structure. (I have a 5 month old, too) It's not perfect, but the tv watching is now on a schedule and it's at a level that I feel comfortable with. (if you want to know, it's 1 episode of Pingu and 1 episode of Shaun the Train on youtube after breakfast is cleaned up, but before snack/lunch. Then after nap, there's a 20 minute "Wibbly Pig" show on tv. It being the same every day really helps cut down on the whining for screen time.)

I also try to get out of the house every other day, just because he will go squirrelly if we don't. I used to be like that too, but now with the baby I'm just tired and would gladly stay home and veg.

You are right Kristen, sometimes tv is not that bad because my youngest 2...3.5 and 2.5 watch tv most times as its hell to take them out lol...my 3.5yr old now knows the alphabet, can count and his speech is so well developed from tv shows like dora...he ha taught himself Spanish from Dora...so just find something round the house to keep them occupied...can you do gardening and let them be involved...mine love to watch vegetables grow and then eat them....

Try finger painting? It's messy, but fun and intriguing.. Little arts and crafts, like drawing, air-drying clay, it keeps children occupied for as long as their imagination will go.. you can even introduce little projects that she can do, like making a kite, or drawing pictures of things she likes.. or how about music? like a keyboard or xylaphone? my daughter has a keyboard and can play with it for hours! try lots of different things and youre bound to find something your daughter is interested in! Hope it helps xx

Sometimes tv isnt all that bad. My child learned to count to ten in 3 different languages from watching tv lol! Maybe have activities planned for her like an art type craft? Good question really lol
