Chloe started walking at 9 months. She was born a big baby & did everything gross motor early. I'm sure she did this because I just couldn't keep holding her all the time & she wanted to be with me (follow me). This isn't that great though because they don't have the danger concept like older bubs do. I don't like using the term "normal" but if you feel like your child isn't doing things in the "normal" time frame then I would take her to a Dr just to put your mind at ease. All bubbies develop differently & they all catch up in the end whether they start early or later. It's only a month after her 1st birthday, give her time :-)

My daughter just started walking yesterday, 12 days before her first birthday, and she already is practically a pro. Every baby is different, when she's ready she will walk. My husband and I had been trying for weeks to get her to walk and she would try but she was timid about it, then yesterday i stood her up and she just took off lol

My daughter walked at 10 months old. And scared me half to death because she walked into the kitchen and hit my leg! But my god daughter didn't walk until 19 months. Her mom took her to the dr and was told she was fine. Come to find out she was just lazy. That was 4 yrs ago and now neither one will sit down.

I'll never know the exact date, because she would walk when no one was watching and promptly drop her butt to the floor if she heard someone coming. LOL. My little princess felt that she should be carried. I was so worried that something was wrong because she was over a year old and not walking... then I caught her in the act.

All four of my children started walking at different times. Two walked before the age of one, two after the age of one. The two that waited later were my children that loved to crawl quickly from thing to thing. I think that they were both so curious and active that walking was too slow for their needs. When they did finally walk, they both just suddenly did it within a couple of days. Don't worry, your daughter is fine. You will see her standing up, holding on to things and walking around holding onto things long before she actually walks. She might just be having too much fun to be bothered by it.

My daughter is also 13 months (2 weeks) & she took her first steps 2 weeks before her birthday. Then she would only really walk if someone held her hand or if she held on to something. Well 2 weeks ago my uncle took us to Hamton Beach & he insisted on leaning the stroller in the car. Good call cuz as we were leaving she let go of my hand & just started going! She hasnt stopped since! Lke my lil girl, your girl will just get up & go! dont stres, u have penty of fime to stress once shes on the move ;)

Please don't worry Nora - mine walked at 18 mths, 17 mths, and 16 mths. Apparently the average is 14mths, so I figure all mine are above average! Different kids are shaped differently, and they all have different areas they are good at. Mine sat on their backsides and learned to talk instead!

My daughter started walking at 9 months, but don't drive yourself crazy by comparing, all children are different even siblings.

Each child is different, but what doctors say that it is best a baby's bones not to walk before 15 months. My son diddn't start holding things until a year old and the doctor told us not to worry about it, each child devoleps at different rates. If you are that worried about it, talk to your pediatrician.

My daughter was 15 months old. It's perfectly normal. A year is just the average age. That means some kids will be earlier and some later and one is not better than the other. She'll walk when she is ready. Though if she is not walking by 16 or 17 months I would check with the doc for sure.

Hi, Nora. I'm a pediatric occupational therapist, and the milestone age for walking is 18 months, so don't worry unless she blasts past 18 months and still isn't doing it. =)

our youngest started walking when he was about 1yrs old when we were in the caravan on holiday he came down the steps and took 2 steps on his own we were so pleased for him as his brother didn't start walking until he was about 5/6 years old hope this helps

[deleted account]

my first started at 13 months. my second just turned one and is attemping but doesnt really care. If you concerned or there seems to be a problem I highly recommend a chiropractor. My youngest couldnt even stand till we took her for adjustments.
