Depends on the kid. I stopped napping at 1 according to my mum but my 2 year old still has a 2-3 hour nap.

It varies so much between children. I've heard of some children giving up naps at as young as 12 months and depending on their school schedule up to 5 years old for some.

My SD took naps 50% of the time by 2 years old. My son is 3.5 and has just start napping 50% of the time. I put him down at his usually nap time. Sometimes he naps and sometimes he just plays quietly in his room and reads books for 30mins-45mins. He still occasionally gets grumpy come bedtime when he doesn't nap but it's just part of the transition period I assume.

He'll start junior kindergarten this sept. But only goes 2 days 1 week and 3 days the next but they are full days. I don't really think he needs a nap right now but I still give him quiet time while his younger sister is napping.

So you could try that. Just having quiet time during nap time or doing a quiet activity with her. Some down time. Maybe just give her naps when you know it's going to be a really busy afternoon or if you feel she seems more tired than usual.

They start kinder at 5, and kids stop napping at all ages. My 5 year old went to ps for the first semester and hated it always came home tired. Now that we hs he and our 2 year old daughter take naps. His are much shorter than her 2-3 hour naps but hes down for a while. They both sleep 12-14 hours a night too. I guess my kids are like me and just NEED sleep.

It's different for every child. My first son barely napped past 20 months. My second son still napped at 2.5, but a lot less than when he was a baby. Now he is 3.5 and usually only naps in the car.

It's different for all kids. My oldest was 4-1/2 before he fully stopped taking naps. My second child, I forced to take naps until he turned four (that was the age I told him he could stop) because I had two younger than him who still napped and I was exhausted and needed that break. The next two stopped by the time they were 2-1/2. Some kids will nap past the age of kindergarten too. When I taught kindergarten (full day), I had one student who really struggled in the afternoon and her mother told me that she still napped after lunch on non-school days. For her, half day in the mornings would have been a better option just because she still needed that nap.

It depends on the child. My twins would've quit napping right at 2, but I wasn't ready to give up the break and resorted to driving them to sleep every day for 6 months. So other than on rare occasions... they were done w/ naps at 2.5, but were sleeping 12-13 hour nights (were sleeping that long w/ naps as well).

My son napped pretty well (ranging from 5 minutes to 3.5 hours) until he weaned at 3.25 years. He's almost 4 now and pretty much only naps at preschool on Monday's... which is fine w/ me cuz if he naps it's really hard to get him to bed. His nights are 10-12 hours long.

So true, when she doesn't take a nap she is in bed around 8 and super fast and easy. She's my 1st baby and I was used to naps as I got a break. But sounds like shes ready to skip them. Thanks for your info it sure helps!

Oh! and 1 more thing! When I told my mom that my daughter stopped napping, she said she wasn't surprised because I stopped around age 2 as well.

I seem to remember my niece napping until she was about 3.

My girl turned 2 on 2-2 and no longer takes naps. The only way I can get a nap out of her is if I rock her, but I stopped doing that. It's not worth it if I end up rocking for an hour.

I would rather her go to bed on time at 8pm, so we skip it completely. She wakes up between 7 and 8am.

As I write this, shes currently jumping up and down on my couch. She used to nap around this time when she was younger. Things have definitely changed!

It's different for every child my 2yo stopped napping at 16 months because it was a huge battle and when I did get him to nap he wouldn't sleep at night so I gave up on the battle and everyone was happier (and extremely tired at the end of the day lol).

My 7 yo nephew napped until he was three and my almost 5 yo nephew still naps if you let him, each child needs a different amount of sleep, if yours is battling against naps see how they do without them, maybe they are ready to cut out the naps.
