When do you change the bedtime routine?

I have a 7 and a half year old son and a 5 year old daughter. When it's time for bed I will go into each of their rooms and lay down next to them and let them choose a song for me to sing, then we'll pray and then I just lay next to them for about 5 minutes before giving them a kiss, telling them I love them and have a goodnight. I'm starting to think that perhaps this is a bit much for them considering their ages. It's just something I've done for a long long time and when I miss any of those things they noticed and immediately inform me that I didn't do whatever it was I missed. Be it song or snuggles. My son is big on telling me that I didn't snuggle him as long as I did his sister or something like that. I was thinking about just doing a song and praying and no laying down by them. Just sitting on their bed. I was just curious of other mom's bedtime routines with their children and any changes you may have made. Thank you.
