When does your toddler learn to eat by themselves?

Just curious, when does your toddler learn to feed themselves? What are the steps you do to establish it? How about during the phase when they don't want to eat? I'm eager to teach my 15months old to feed herself, but she's not eating her meals right now. Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot Allie. I've finally tried ur suggestion. It was hard to start as she keeps on throwing the food out from the bowl. I have to prepare 2 times her normal meal just to think half of it will be eaten, fingers crossed...

she started eating again after the 3rd day.

And thanks Christina too, I tried to eat with her n say how much I enjoy eating, yum yum.. so she would eat too.

try putting her in her High chair and give her a couple cheerios in a bowl ( no milk haha) and a spoon and let her expierement with it. Or you can do any food she'll figure it out by watching you eat. My son Loves PB&J"s cut up into little squares.

Luck!

finger food. let her be in charge. cut fruit and vege in bite size pieces or easy to hold. and crakers and bread. meat and pasta. then pick a food that she really likes that needs a spoon to finish. let her do it herself and she how she goes.  she may want to do it herself and that is why she is not eating. good luck. try looking on the net for more advice
