Your baby will be ready at his/her own time. Don't rush it, your doctor will let you know when the time is right.

My daughter was more than ready for cereal at 4 months and did fine with it.  My son, on the other hand, was absolutely not ready until 6 months.  Everytime I tried to feed him, he would spit every bit out.  My daughter was a bit larger baby than my son, don't know if that made a difference.

Hi Ashley,

I started my son on cereal when he was 4 months old (eventhough the doctor said to wait till 6 months). I decided to start because he was showing the signs that he was ready for it, such as: sitting without support, showing interest in our foods, and not being satisfied with just milk. When he was about 3 months we started putting pablem in his evening and night time bottles to fill him up, and to introduce rice cereal to his diet.

A great device for introducing foods to your baby's diet (especially when teething, and when your baby is ready!) is the baby feeder/teether, made by Munchkin, Sassy, and a few others. It is a device that you can put fresh fruit into, that the baby can chew without the worry of choking. We started with an apple slice, (bananas are very messy and very hard to clean).

Like the others said, anywhere between 4 and 6 months is fine, it all depends on your baby and his needs. Mine both started around 5 months. Also, it's best to start with the rice cereal since that's the easiest for them to digest. Good luck!

My son started on rice cereal when he was 4 months old. Doctors recommend it based on the baby's size, weight, and nutritional needs so every baby is different.

It mostly depends on your baby. Some babys start really early on ceral. Some doctors will recommend it early or late. It mostly depends on your babies needs. Most babies start somewhere between 4 and 6 months. Sometimes the Doctors recommend it earlier to get the baby to sleep through the night. here are two websites that I visit frewuently to give me a good idea of where an average baby is. Just remember every baby is different and these websites are based on averages!
