when should you really try potty training

Tomesa- I'm so glad to hear that! I have been so worried about my 3 year old daughter and potty training. She has been peeing in the potty for a long time but she refuses to poop in it and she will be 4 in September. She still pees in her pull ups sometimes, too, even though she knows better. I've tried everything, stickers, treats, offers to go to the park, a new doll, etc., but she just won't do it. Someone told me to stop using pull ups and put panties on her so she will see how yucky it feels to be wet and dirty. It's SO frustrating bc she is an over-achiever in every other area. She speaks 2 languages, knew her abc's at age 2, can count to 100 in English and Spanish, can play piano, etc. She's a smart kid....so why won't she just poop in the potty?!?!?! I'm going nuts, lol!

i think when they start noticing the poop or pee on them--it's time! my daughters all were trained around 3.5 and fully trained by 4...but none of them started training before 3 honestly. and they all have good bowel control today.

When you child shows signs of interest and capability and most important...when you are ready to commit. Both my children were out of diapers with in 2 weeks of the start...even at night. My son would sit on the potty whenever I suggested it but my daughter had to have a few more accidents before she decided to sit on the potty. My son was 2 1/2 and fulling down by 3 and my daughter was 27 months and was fully done within a month. I tell you, if it wasn't for my husband saying lets take the diaper off at night I don't know if I would have done it but it worked. oh, yeah we did not use pull ups...underwear only. And we did not back track, even when I wanted to because it seemed our plan was not working, we had to keep with the game plan. Good luck.

when they start taking their diaper off or saying poop or pee is when their ready to potty train. when they do that, get them a seat and put it in the bathroom. dont push them tho, if they dont want to sit on it dont make them. eventually after seeing you go to the bathroom they will want to. my son will be 2 in about 2 weeks and he isnt' potty trained yet but hes now to the point where he will sit there and he went once a little bit. when they sit down, whether they go or not give them a treat. they love being rewarded. to help them aim, use cheerios or something like that and tell them to point where the cereal is. hope this helps :)

In my personal opinion....your child will let you know when its time. Wyatt started potty training at about 1. He would follow me to the potty and sit on his potty while I used the restroom. A friend of mine her little one didn't potty train till he was 3. It just depends on your child.
