I was up and down restless all night. Was in bed and felt a little gush went to bathroom to check it out and it fully broke all over the bathroom floor. Just put a towel down. We got showers and headed to the hospital. I wasn't having contractions I could feel when my water broke. It was 5:45 A.M when it broke and our lil guy came into the world at 11:23 P.M.

I could not sleep and was having very mild contractions so I went to check my messages on Facebook at 12:30am... as soon as I sat down my water broke on my husbands office chair. I had to waddle all the way back to the bathroom with my hands trying to catch as much as I could... big mess!... and then the bedroom to get my husband up. Luckily I had beach towels in the car for the ride =)

Quoting krista:

what if im sleeping and dont notice it?

mine broke when i was in the hospital.. i had been in labor for 18hrs.. so, i had fallen asleep.. THEN my water broke.. and i woke right up.. and seriously, RIGHT after it broke my daughters head started crowning.. so yeah, you'll notice it when you're sleeping.. your child's head might not start crowning, but you certainly will feel contractions.

Okay, Ms Jasper, these are cute and funny, however there is the dark side. excuse the spelling, MACONIUM, that is when the childs fecal excrement is floating around with him/her in the sac; if I remember the danger is that the child will consume their own excrement during delivery.

its a brownish color when it dries u can see it i had just got home from doing my usually friday dr and visiting my old job and got something ot eat drove home got out and walked around the truck and it started linking when i got to the hospital and they checked me it finished breaking i was only at 36 weeks but after 13 hours i had to have a c-section my pelvic bone isnt wide enough for a baby come out she had a knot on her head after me pushing for 1 hour and the dr told us after she was stuck he almost had to have her pushed back up me to get her out and i had strip b which can cause harm to ur baby that was one reason i choose to have a c-section but i would have never push her out

BUT ITS ALL WORTH IT WHEN I SEEN HER AND I GOT TO HOLD HER THERE IS NO WORDS TO EXPLAIN HOW I FELT

I was at home in my kitchen. :-D But Your water doesn't always break first, you might be lucky and go into labor and be in the hospital before it breaks. Good luck!

I was at home when my waters started leaking! 12 hrs later, after 6hrs at hospital,I stood up from sofa when they broke properly! Had to go back to the hospital to be sent home again after just half hr,as labour hadnt started! When they break, its like your wetting yourself and not able to control it! 2 days later,I had to go back to have a c section,as no sign of labour starting!

With my #1 and #3 babies my OB broke my water at the hospital at some point during the inductions. They were both horribly long labors...21 and 24 hours. It was just a big gush of warm water.

With my #2 and #4 babies my water broke at home on the toilet! With #2 I was in our brand new bathroom with my 2 1/2 year old who was saying "Mama I have to go potty!" I was about to stand up when I heard a "pop" and felt a gush of warm water. The whole time I was gathering my things and waiting for the babysitter to get there I was dripping all over the place. I changed my pants 3-4 times before we even left for the hospital and I sat on a towel for the drive there. My dr just put the ph strip against my leg to confirm it was actually amniotic fluid...but really, there was no question! I wasn't having any contrax so they decided at midnight to induce me in the morning. My son had other ideas...he was born at 3:30 am and the doctor had to race back to the hospital in time to catch him!

With my #4 baby I woke up with a strong contraction and went into the bathroom. I thought my water may have broken when I sat down on the toilet, but the contrax were hard and fast so it was difficult to tell. We went to the hospital and I was at 5 cm and the nurse said my water hadn't broken...but when the dr checked me a little bit later I was at 7cm and she said it had broken...probably while I was at home. Looking back, I know it happened at home when I *thought* it did. My son was born almost exactly 4 hours after that first contraction!

When my water broke, I wasn't even aware of it, because it was just a very subtle"trickle"(which was enough fluid to use a pantiliner)...I called my OB doc and she wasn't very concerned, because I wasn't experiencing any pain, although they did say that if it increased, which it did after a day or so, to go in for an evaluation....long story short, I should have gone in that first day because the baby could have developed complications,(due to possible contamination of the amniotic fluid) if I waited another day... I ended up in labor for a few hours with a healthy baby girl!

I was at work when my water broke. It was only a trickle at first and then it really started to flow, but I put a heavy duty pad on before that and I left work. My contractions didn't really kick in until a few hours later.

Mine broke while I was in bed, it woke me up because I thought I was peeing. It felt like a small gush but it wasn't alot and I got to the bathroom pretty fast (for a pregnant lady) it leaked constantly(annoying!!) until my beautiful little girl was born, never really had contractions and 6 hours later ended up having to have an emergency c-section (my blood pressure dropped and they lost the baby's heart beat).

I had a doctor appointment the day before I was due and as I was opening the door to leave, it broke. At first it wasn't a whole lot but then a second later it poured all down my pant leg! No clue what color it was as I was wearing dark pants.

Needless to say I skipped my appointment and just went to the hospital and had my baby via c-section 12 hours later!

[deleted account]

I was at home talking to my husband on the phone about baby names. It started as just a little but by the time I got to the bathroom, every step was more and more. My baby was breach and I wonder if not having her head down made it leak more. I was still leaking when I got to the hospital an hour later.

Fortunately I was at the hospital. It was funny because I had no idea what was going on and told the nurse "uhhh something really wet is going on" lol, she told I just won a trip upstairs to delivery. I wasn't aware of the smell but my boyfriend said it did.

[deleted account]

Taco Bell around midnight. The other two times in the hospital. It's not like you see on TV or read in books. Chances are, your doctor will have to break your water for you, sometime during your labor.

Everyone understands situations like that, so try not to worry or be self concious. One trick you can use is to carry a flannel cloth with you in your bag. If you leak from your water, or just stress on your bladder, you can quietly take care of it, if your water breaks in a gush, then chances are people will be falling all over themselves to help you. Good luck with your delivery and with your precious baby!

LOL!! I was at my Grandma's with my first one. I felt the "pop", went to the bathroom, put on a maxi pad, and told my mom "its time to go". My second baby they broke it for me in the hospital. I suggest wearing a pad your last few weeks, but only when you go out in public because some blood can also be part of the fluids.

I had to have my waters broken with both my kids. I think both times I was dilated around 8 cm. I was retaining an exceptional amount of fluid with my second and I remember that it took something like 5 or 6 absorbency pads to clean up the mess. I just sort of...deflated.

Quoting Heather:

I was at Barnes & Nobles!! Thanks God it was more of a trickle than a huge gush. It was a rainy day so wrapped my jacket around my huge waist and quietly, quickly left. Later at the hospital when I wasn't even sure it had broken the DR. went to check and it gushed all over her. oops!

omg the samething happened to me, i went to the hospital because i had the slow trickling fluid running down my legs. i was at the hospital for a few hours and the nurse came to check if i had started dilating and it came out all over her and hit the floor kind of hard & woke my fiance up out of his sleep and got on him also lol

With my first child I got induced at the hospital just so I would know when my water would break and I wouldn't be out at the grocery store or out in public. Im the kind of person who likes to know when things are gona happen....well with my second child I was so ready for it to be over I was trying everything to go into labor. I came up with this great idea to start walkin on the treadmill and hoping it would begin my labor well after 30 mins I was exhausted so I went upstairs and started to get into the shower well my fiance had other plans..... ;) After we were done makin "baby" love I stood up, to take a 2nd attempt at the shower idea I had in the first place, I asked my fiance' why do I feel warmness going down my legs..he said either your peeing on yourself or your water just broke......needless to say I never got my shower!!! :(

[deleted account]

I was lying in bed when my water broke, it was the weirdest sensation, it felt like someone had plucked a guitar string in my belly. Nothing came out until I got up and walked to the bathroom. I was sure it was my water breaking and not pee because I couldn't control it and right after it happened I had my first really big contraction. Every contraction after that I was leaking all over the place and for me it was A LOT each time.

I've heard that most women's labor doesn't start with the water breaking so you'll probably have some advance warning. And it shouldn't smell bad, if it does smell bad then you should let your doctor know because that could be a sign that the baby pooped and they might need to take some extra precautions.

For my twins my doctor induced me but for my daughter my water broke in my in-laws bathroom. I thought I had to pee so I went & peed but before I got up it broke all over the floor. I was so embarassed especially since 2 of my sister-in-laws were there & their husbands. Plus I had an hour drive to get to the hospital. Thank goodness she decided to wait 6 hours before coming out. Her brothers only waited 4 hours.

I was in bed & it was at 2:30 in the morning. Told my bf I felt wet down there like I had peed my pants a little but that I had thought my water broke. He told me "oh no, the girl from work said it'd gush and you'd surely know". I'm like "baby, that gal is NOT a doctor, my water broke"! Put a towel between my legs and got ready to head to the hospital. Had to get gas first though lol

with my first, i was getting ready to go to bed like around 11 pm, and I laid down and after a few minutes I felt and heard a little pop, so i got up and it all gushed out on the floor. With my second, I was at the hospital and they gave me a choice to either have then break the water for me and have the baby faster or wait till the water breaks itself and wait longer for the baby, so I choice for them to break the water.

[deleted account]

I had been not sleeping for two days previous. It was 10 at night and I was on my way to bed, I was determined to get some sleep. I laid down and not even five minutes later my water broke right in my bed.

well with my second and third children the drs broke my water but with my first its kind of a funny story. me and my boyfriend were liveing with my mom just moved in and there was no electricity in middle of summer. well we were all lying around on my bed just laying there trying to not die of heat stroke LOL and i got up and used the bathroom all was normal well as soon as i layed back down next to my boyfriend my water broke and it was a huge huge gush like someone popped 10 water balloons at once. so needless to say i was at home when my water broke.
