My boys both wake us really happy unless they have a headache or a teething but from 8 weeks on both my boys have woken just talking babbling or coming out of there room with a big smile on there face.. for day dot I put them down to put themselves to sleep and both laugh when I put them in the cot and bed they love it and know what it means and I also left them cry for a tiny bit when they were little . I didn't rush to them so they knew they would be fine .. I think before they realise that its there only way to say hey Im awake come and get me !

My son will only cry if he wakes up, and I'm not there. He takes most naps with me, and sleeps in our bed at night, so it's pretty rare. Some kids do have night terrors though, and it will cause them to scream/cry without waking. My son experienced those for a week or so, until I realized he wasn't getting enough sleep during the day, and once we fixed that, the night terrors stopped.

Hi Puja,
From my reading, I ve not found any specific reason for this. But yes, it is normal for them to cry between sleep cycles..I ve tried not to run in at the slightest wimper..though it is difficult to hold yourself but I tried giving my baby 5-10 min to try to fall back to sleep and it worked until and unless she has some health problem...

Maybe they don't like waking up finding themselves alone. My son is 11 months old and doesn't usually cry on waking anymore, since he learned to crawl. He sleeps in our bed, which is a futon, low to the ground, so when he's finished his nap he just gets himself up and comes out to find me.
