I have a 5 year old granddaughter that gets the hiccups for no apparent reason, doesn't have anything to do with eating and she will also let out a loud belch that has a very foul oder. She gets the hiccups at least 2-3 times a day. Any ideas?

Because she is growing. Some kids do that when they are small.

Does she seem to get hiccups soon after eating? Some children and Adults get hiccups after eating either too fast or items that upset her diaphram some way. Adults have the same issues some times. For example my father age 58 gets hiccups when he eats pickled jalepenos too fast. Hope this helps.

Is she eating too fast or drinking? Sometimes that happens due to sucking in air. Try keeping her upright after meals. Car seat, swing. You could try some mylicon drops( over the counter) in between food and drink to remove the air.

My son is the same way. It's from them eating too fast. It's air pockets. Try burping or save a sip of formula or water for after.
