Why does my little girl cry and resist when I tell her to get up from the potty?

She gets indentations on her butt from the potty seat (I keep her on it from 15-30 minutes max), so if it hurts her to sit on it (she has told me no and yes) then why would she cry to get off it? She doesn't cry when I tell her that it's time to sit on the potty.

I thought maybe she feels ashamed of peeing in it, but she has cried when she didn't do anything in the potty. I tell her that she's a good girl for sitting on it, and then once I finally get her off it I give her lots of praise if she used it.

Has anyone gone through this? Should I just buy her a potty with a cushioned seat?

Offer her a book and/or blanket

on a little chair that is all her own. She may feel attached to this little-person-sized chair ...

Potty when she potties -

15minutes is almost too long. Figure out when she does her job 9Typically after a meal) and then set her on the potty then and only then.

Our bodies have regular patterns ... learn to read hers and you will both be happy with the results!

you could also try bribing her to get up. you've done so well! lets go get treat! then you'll know if it's pain or something else.

Thanks Tania. I did buy a different potty, but not one with a cushioned seat. The one I bought has a flat seat where you have to pick up the seat to get the bowl out. The old one had the bowl set right down in the seat which created an edge that I think pinched her legs when she moved. I will find out tomorrow if she likes the new one!

hmm, sometimes kids have a hard time telling you what they want or need. Maybe a softer seat will do the trick! Try it, you never know:)
