My daughter has always been a self-entertainer and independent, but recently, she seems to be crying over every little thing. She also is more clingy. Normally she only gets clingy when she's tired, but she seems to be doing it more often throughout the day. Is the normal behavior for a 16 month old?

hmmm...sounds like how both of my kids were/are. my son is 14 months and has always been a fussy baby and cant' be put down. my daughter was always very independant up until about 14 months and then she got clingy until she turned 2. then it was back to wanting to play by herself again.

it's totally normal. kids at that age go through what's sometimes called stranger anxiety...and don't want to let go of mom and dad...ever!!

she will outgrow this in time.

Maybe she is teething. What about side tooth? They are coming much more painful than front ones. be patient.

I'm sure you've heard of "terrible two's"....well, it's a myth that it happens when they turn two. Two of mine had hit the "terrible two's" at 14 months! If she is your only child, be prepared that this may be the beginning of her expecting you to entertain her from now on....unless and/or until you have another child for her to play with. God Bless and best wishes!

Some babies get clingy around this age. They become aware of strangers, or people they don't see very often. Hopefully it's just a phase. My 2 1/2 year old is very shy. It takes him an hour or so just to warm up to his grandparents I even have a hard time leaving him with sitters, and they are usually his own sisters!.
