My 17 month old is biting and sheez yes it bloody hurts!!!. I tried biting back and he just laughs at me but I have also always been taught not to bite so I have a proble doing to y own son. The only way I get him to stop is to smack him on the bottom, just enough to shock him and pull him up.. I'm not sure what else to do cos' he just laughs at me and thinks its funny!

I did daycare for 12 years and we had our share of biters. It's a stage they go through at this age. It comes from teething or frustration because he can't communicate with you. When he bites you, tell him biting hurts. Don't emphasize the word "bite", emphasize "hurt or ouch" so he begins to understand that it hurts without the need to be bit himself. Then give him something he can bit. Like a teether so he knows it's ok to bite just not to bite other people.

It always helped me for 12 years. Good luck.

Children bite when they cant express what they want. My middle child was a biter... as soon as he started expressing himself better or i started listening better.lol. he stopped the biting:-)

If he is getting new teeth its probably that thats causing him to bite, he may only do it to you and your Husband as it is a comfort thing. All kids go through some stage of biting whether it be because of teething or aggression, when he bites you just pick him up and sit him away from you somewhere telling him No. Sometimes biting back does scare them enough to stop them doing it. Do you have some sort of teething toy he can bite, you can buy them filled with water abd you just put them in the fridge, that might be ideal for him. Hope you get it sorted! x x x
