i have a 4 year old, he turned 4 last august and now i think it's time to have him clean his own butt after pooping. I introduced it to him and it's not going well. he wants nothing to do with it. Any tips

instead of toilet paper, use baby wipes. the wipes are softer, and probably easier for them to use.

We just successfully got our almost 5 year old to wipe his butt. We suggest wet wipes and they do make flush-able ones now. IF he isn't interested in doing it you can try not doing it for him and see how he likes it. I now that sound gross but it might help him to understand why he needs to do it. on the flip side have him have to wipe someoneelses butt and also the lesson just might work out in your favor. Also you cannot make it a choice for him. he must wipe his own bum!

I've found it helpful if the kids are looking forward to starting school. You don't have help in school so you need to learn how to do it if you want to be a big kid and go to school. Wet wipes are easier for them to use. Make sure you use positive reinforcement after he manages to do it on his own - no matter how well.

I always make my kids wipe their own, but i would start with getting him to wipe and you will will wipe after. You can use wet wipes to start (I use baby wipes that they throw out in the garbage) also reward him if he is doing a good job. lots of praise.
