Would rather stand than sleep?!

My son used to take 2 regular naps a day, both between 1-2 hours. Now I am lucky if I can get him to lie down for half an hour.
Ever since he discovered that he can pull himself up he just stands there and cries. I go in, I put him back down and he stands right back up again.
I can lead the baby to bed, but I cant make him sleep. Any others had this problem? what did you do to curb it?

Well Chrystal I'm a little old school and I think that crying is good for your lungs!!!! Eventually they get tired and go to sleep. He knows he can get ur attention by crying and crying for a long time. Also you could try rubbing his back or sumthing like that.

Thanks ladies, this seems to be the general consensus. I just needed to hear it I guess :) I'm not looking forward to the tears but I guess I got to do what I got to do.

I agree with Yvette. When my 10 month old daughter decides she doesn't want to lay down, but instead stands in her crib and cries, I have to hold steadfast and let her cry it out. She does finally lay down and fall asleep. In my case, she always wants to be held and she knows I will hold out for her to sleep and she does wake up with a better disposition.
