Would you go on vacation without small children?

My husbands best friend is getting married. I adore this guy, I've known him for years. When he made the announcement I was the first to jump up and say of course the whole family is going, wherever it is (he is from our state but now lives in another).

Twist! He and his fiance decided they are getting married in Cancun Mexico, at a 5 star resort that doesn't allow children. We are super tight on cash because I'm currently staying at home with our two children. One is 18 months, the other is 4.5 years.

I'm not just afraid of the money it would take, but mostly leaving our small children with their relatives so we can prance off to a country at war with itself. I realize that most of the trouble takes place further in, but I don't feel anyone can predict how things might change. Of course I could just as easily get hit by a bus crossing the street, but this feels like I am throwing myself into the midst of potential danger so that I can sit by the pool for 3 days.

My hubby is a groomsman. I know he is going no matter what. Am I a selfish monster for wanting to stay home with my children? I just don't feel good about this trip. It seems like too much money, and I can't stand being away from my small children for more than a couple of hours at a time.

If money is tight and you're husband is okay with you staying home with the kids then stay home! Your husband will be there to represent you both! In the end you need to do what's best for you family!

what about going and staying at an alternate resort that allows for children?

You aren't selfish for wanting to stay home with your children, but honestly, there is nothing wrong with leaving your kids for a couple of days. Certainly don't feel guilty about it if you decide to go.
