vomit, diarrhea, no fever

My son is sick. He has been vomiting and has diarrhea for a few months off and on again. No fever during any of this and he acts just fine when his symptoms are not happening.

I have been researching this, and have seen lots of similar issues, but no one has answered back what the results have been. I am at wits end here. This is just not right. Something has to be amiss, this has lasted too long to be a virus as the doctors have said.

The first week we took him to the walk in clinic, they said it was a virus and to adjust his diet to a bland, mostly banana diet. We did that, and the illness persisted. That same week, I took him to his pediatrician for a follow up, who said the same thing, but gave us a kit for a stool sample. He continued his symptoms off and on for the next 5 days, so I got a sample and took it in the doctor. They ran tests and found nothing. It stopped for a while right after that, and then he had the same symptoms last weekend. I called the pediatricians office and they said that if this continues for three more weeks, then they will have him in for blood work.

This morning he started vomiting and diarrhea again. This time the vomiting last for four hours. It has been going away within an hour of waking up and diarrhea persists for the day or two.

The vomit starts off as whatever he ate last, then becomes more clear with each vomit, until it is just mucus, like snot not bile. His stool is the same, goes from whatever he ate last to mucus, with a black color and HORRIBLE odor.

just got word that they are starting an IV and drawing blood. Thankfully my mom is coming up to watch my other kids so I can go be with my baby.

Did you ever get any answers? My daughter has been having diarrhea and vomiting off and on for a month now. I have taken her to the doctor twice. He says it's probably just something she is eating that is causing her to have an upset tummy, but we have not given her anything new.
