She is not underweight. She is just fine. My daughter is 2 and only weighs 25 pounds and she is in the 50th percentile! Time to start her on some baby food or real food though, because she could be low in iron, which isn't good at all.

my daughter is 20 months and she only ways about 22 pounds. she had weighed 20 pounds since she was a year. i was very worried that she was under weight because she is at the top of the chart for height and bottom for weight but my doctor just laughed and said she was a lucky girl she is going to grow up tall and skinny !

She's not underweight, she's completely normal! I would start introducing baby food to her though...

I have 5 children while they are similar, they are very different. One thing I have learned is yes there is a scale to which our children are compared to,but each child is different, and will grow different than other children. My oldest was 45 pounds @9 months but had the height of a average 3 year old ,was running 3 days b4 he turned 8 months old and had all his teeth by his 1st b-day he was born at 30 weeks. The doctors all said he would be behind developmentally,...he is 6 ft 2 and weighs 129 lbs at 14 years old and was just named early this year as one of the nations top academic scholors....my point is you can't rely on the charts...some kids will fit it some won't some will be above some will be below....you have to stick to your gut .....moms do know best...but when in doubt do ask like you did...your doing a great job!

My son will be 2 next Sunday & he only weighs like 23lbs. I think he weighed about 19lbs when he turned a year. Every baby is different! My little guy is tall & thin.

20-23 sounds good to me my daughter is 19 months old and is right around 20lbs and has been since she was about 10 months old. If she is eating normally and the doctors arent worried then i would be worried

My 18 month old only weighs 21 lbs. She is on the low end of the charts but she also started walking at 10 months. I think that because she started walking so early she just burns off more than other babies her age. She is very busy and looks very healthy. She also eats everything and a lot, all of the time, lol!

My twins didn't hit 20 lbs until about 13 months or so. Their doctor said they were small for their age, but they were eating and were healthy so there was nothing to worrry about. If your daughter is walking that means she is active and is prob burning off alot of what she eats. At 10 months my kids were on stage 2 and 3 baby foods as well as some table foods. Even now my kids who are almost 3 are still small for their age. They eat and eat and eat somedays, but are soooo active I think they just burn it all off. If your doctor doesn't seem concerned, then I wouldn't worry about it. Just go with the flow, she will gain weight when she moves to eating table food instead of baby food.

My daughter didn't hit 20 lbs until she was over 18 months. I would talk to your doctor if she has stopped gaining weight altogether. It might be time to start on solids since she is so active...that is probably why she isn't gaining weight (because she is so active)

My son is 11 months old and has also been wakling for about a month and half. He weighs about 22 lbs. He has never been said to be under weight. I think you are good to go considering boys usually weigh more then girls.

No, she's very healthy. My 21 month old is only 22.5 lbs. In the last ten months she has only gained 1 1/2 lbs. Many of the growth charts are based on formula feeding, not breast milk. Your daughter sounds very healthy, just little. :)

I would have to say no from experience I have 3 kids and at 1 yr both my boys were 23 pnds and my daughter is 4 and 1/2 yrs and weighs 30 pnds ! But if your worried about it ask your dr how she looks on the growth chart!

Thank you everyone...I feel so much better knowing it's normal for them to stay at a certain weight for awhile. It definitely put my mind at ease. I really appreciate all your comments.

That's a totally normal weight. My son is 16 months and he's only 24 lbs. It's OK that she's only nursing as long as you offer her regular food all the time. If she refuses, just keep offering, she'll come around eventually. For babies under 1, breastmilk/formula should be their primary source of food, about 90 - 95%.

THAT TO ME, SEEMS LIKE A VERY AVERAGE WT FOR A 10MONTH OLD. THEY USUALLY TRIPLE THIER BIRTH WT BY 1 YEAR. ESP. SINCE SHE IS WALKING, SHE SOUNDS LIKE HER WT IS PERFECT.

I don't think that she is underwieght.. My 2 1/2 yrs old is only 25.6lbs. My 5yr old is only 34lbs. As long as she stays on her curve I would not worry about it. If you really are concerned ask your pediatrician.

No she is not under weight, my daughter is 25mth old and only weighs 24.5lbs and health visitor says she is fine. If your baby is active and walking at 10mth then she is going to burn weight more. Do not worry she is fine x

While I may have a hard time relating to you at this point because my first four babies weighed much more than this at this time in their lives... I have been both hounded by the doctors because either my children did not gain any weight inbetween 12 and 18 months (this includes a call to Social services) or they voiced thier opinion that my child needed to be put on a diet. This only shows that the doctors are only guessing as all of them are perfectly normal weight now with no diet restrictions. I am now blessed with my 5th child who has stayed small to me but well in the normal range of weight. As long as your child is not skin and bones... please follow your gut feeling. After all you are the mother and you know best when it comes to your child no matter how many degrees your pediatrician may have.

That's what my two y.o. weights! They may pause in weight gain while starting to walk. My girl walked at 10 mo. also.

Not at all. My little girl is is about 18 1/2 lbs and she is 16 months old! She is perfectly healthy. My son is small too. Every child is different, so don't worry

Not at all...my daughter just turned a year and started seething a few weeks ago. She has 1 1/2 teeth so far. My first daughter had teeth by 4 mos, so it just depends on the child. My doctor told me there's really no worry until they are 18-24 months. Sounds like our daughters are both slightly late boomers, which is fine with me. My oldest is gonna be 9 years old soon. She's already asking about boys, etc. Ugh... I'm completely happy to take as much time as possible with my newest! Enjoy your little one slowly unfolding into a little person because you'll look back and still think it went by too quickly. :-)

thank you everyone! this helped so much...she's chubby and very active. she has been hitting all her milestones and is developing normal. she's very smart for a 11month old. she only has two teeth though. most other kids her age have four or five. other then her teeth she is perfectly healthy. should I worry that she only has two teeth?

MMy daughter was 17lbs when she was 10 1/2 mos. She is a chubby cheeked, happy child. If there are problems, they will be quite noticeable.

She is not under weight. And breastmilk is always best and high calorie. Just introduce new foods as she is ready and interested:)

I think she's a perfectly healthy weight :-) Our eldest weighed about 22-23lb at 10mths old. He started walking early too, at 9.5mths and his weight gain slowed dramatically as he was burning it all off (running, full on running at 10.5mths).

He would have 3-4 bottles a day + solids. Just vegies, or vegies & rice, a little at lunch & a little a dinner, and a couple of spoonfuls of cereal in the morning.

She sounds normal to me! If she was underweight, at her age she's probably just using all of those calories to develop in other ways, like learning how to walk and how to find where mommy keeps all her most expensive, breakable items :)

no, she's actually above normal for her age. which BTW is still "normal" but she's just bigger than 90% of children her age.

My 23 month old weighs 20-21 lbs. Perfectly healthy, just very small. As long as your daughter is growing, healthy and continuing to develop and reach milestones, don't worry!

My girls are six years old and are 35lbs...they didn't hit 20lbs until they were 2 1/2. We had carry car seats until then...little legs sticking out and all. We were hospitalized for "failure to thrive"...ran every test possible and they were/are fine....just tiny. They fit into 2t shorts still to this day! Just think of it as a blessing that you won't be buying clothes as often! I do!! :)

I have 3 girls and not one of them hit 20 lbs until after their 1st bday,so unless she is excessively tall for 10 months I would think that would be a healthy weight....

My 16 month old is 19 pounds and she is on the low end of normal. Don't worry! Some little girls are just very petite!
