Hi my 13 month old is teething with molars coming through and having a tough time of it. Apart from usual runny nose, flushed bumpy cheeks and ittitability he also has very soft stools. Been giving him banana which I believe helps to firm stools a little but it isnt too effective this time. Any ideas on other foods with gentle binding properties would be appreciated. Thanks

My 13 month old had the same problem. When he was 12 months I eliminated bananas and tomatoes as they are a linked sensitivity (allergy) The red cheeks and fussing disappeared .Were still struggling with the loose stools though

Hi, thanks to you both for your replies. I see what you mean Leanne about the risk of him becoming constipated so will be sure to consider that and keep his diet consistant. He has porridge with mushed banana each morning and a good balanced diet so will just carry on and ride it out. Have recently replaced one of his formula bottles with cows milk too... maybe that hasnt helped either.. just a thought.

Hi, if your son has soft stools, and can eat plain bread, I would sugest giving your little man some fiber as this helps bowel movements and gives substance to his stools.

He is probably having soft stools because he is teething. It is normal. He will go back to having firm stools once his teeth have come through. I would keep his diet as normal as possible because he might end up going the other way (getting constipated) once he has stopped teething. Hope this helps.
