My 14 month old daughter wont eat solids. She will eat slightly chunky baby food but nothing more. She will open her mouth and let me try to feed her solids but then she just gives me a nasty face and spits it out. If a food is to thick she gags so I have to mix it with applesauce to thin it. A friend said she may have low oral muscle tone but I dont know what to do. Any advice?

I have that same problem with my 15 month old now. She can't eat things like dry cereal (kix or cheerios) and seems like she gags on certain foods. she isn't really chewing up her food like she is suppose to.

She does eat baby oatmeal and loves yogurt but no to eggs. These last few days she has taken 2 bites of blueberry waffles and spaghetti.

I definitely understand your concern! It could be nothing, chidlren at that age can be very picky. BUT if you are really worried I would try to contact Early Intervention. My daughter is six now but she had similar problems when she was a lot younger. She ended up with Occupational Therapy services to help with eating and it helped tremendously! Good luck!

I went through the same exact thing with my son, only he would gag to the point of throwing up. It wasn't untill these last 4 weeks I got him to start eating solids... he is now 17 months old. I had done everything from refusing to try n feed him baby food and only offering solids, to only offering baby food. In the end his pediatrician said that every thing he needs he is getting from the jar'd food, but to continue to try and offer solids at every meal (which is a real pain when u see how much gets wasted), it worked. I started setting the food on his tray now he is begining to prefer solids... im still having a hard time with it though because he wont eat enough of either to sufficiantly sustain him. Just continue offering a variety of solids every single meal. Your little one will be fine. I'd never seen a 5 year old in school still on jar baby food ;) keep that in mind. :)
