My 16 month old grandson only say 4 words clearly that is " mama, papa, Dada, and woo woo". My husband and I are raising him and our youngest child is a special needs 14 year old and our middle son is 20 so we're having trouble getting him to talk or speak words clearly. A speech therapist suggested getting him seen because hr should be babbling more than he is. What do yall think? Do we have just cause to worry or do boys really develop slower than girls? And whats should we be doing differently? Our son spoke his first word at 10 months and didn't walk until 2. So we are a little rusty at what 16 month old should be doing now. Please help with advice soon. Signed a panic stricken grandma

No need to stress! All kids are different and until he is 3 and not speaking you do NOT need to worry. (And he is speaking a little bit!) My son said his FIRST WORD at 16 months. Then he only gained a word or two a month for about 6 months. At 22/24 months his speech just took off. Now he's 2.5 and very verbal. Kids are all different and boys tend to talk later.

I believe he is fine but I am not a professional. Did the therapist had a chance to interact with him? My youngest son hardly said any words at this age now he is almost 3 years old and he speaks very well. The doctor kept telling me that they wait until he is 3 years old to be concerned. He is speaking a few words that is good news. Maybe you can get some advice on how to help him speak more but I wouldn't be concerned.
