My granddaughter is 18 months and 19 pounds. She also takes pediasure by doctor prescription. She has gained 2 pounds in 2 months. I found for her it was a texture issue. Certain foods were unpleasant feeling when we started her on regular foods. she absolutely refused to eat meat at all. Would only eat baby food stage 1 fruits and vegetables. I went to wal-mart and bought a small Kitchen Ninja Blender for about 20 dollars. I started introducing meat into her vegetables and blended it in the ninja to a creamy baby food consistency, adding a little milk or water if needed. She would eat it. Then started to slowly let the consistency become a little more like course instead of blended creamy. Every couple weeks I chopped a little coarser and she will now eat anything I put in front of her with out any blending. I still cut her meat pretty small but she eats everything.

Are you giving Pediasure under a doctor or dietician's direction? It's really not a good thing to offer children unless they are facing significant medical issues that outweigh the negatives of products like these.

Although Pediasure is vitamin fortified, it's better for kids to get vitamins and minerals from food sources. Although Pediasure might get calories into your son, it can grossly inhibit his ability to form good nutritional habits - so you win the battle, but lose the war. It's also difficult to develop a taste for healthy food when you're used to drinking a processed food product that's so high in sugar and artificial flavour.

If you have talked to your doctor and ruled out medical concerns, I would drop the Pediasure and just focus on healthy food.

As things stand right now, what is a typical day for your son? Is he only drinking Pediasure, or is he taking some solids? Has he always been resistant to solid food, or is this something new? D

What did they do with him at eating therapy? Did that help any? What did the therapist tell you?

Pediasure by doctor. Has had swallow test and eating therapy. He eats solid food but very little. Only weighs 23 lbs. Prefers to drink, rather than eat. I try different foods all the time.
