The only recognizable word my toddler says is mama. She does say a bunch of other things, but they all sound about the same and are not recognizable to anyone but her father and me. She is in speech therapy once a week, but it doesn't seem to be helping very much, if at all.
What are your experiences with toddler speech? Is she just not ready to talk yet? When do you think she will start to talk?

Thanks Hannah, I will give the therapy more time.
Her hearing was fine at birth and she has never had an ear infection. She follows commands very well, too. She seems to understand most of what we say, too. I guess she just doesn't want to talk!

You are getting her the help she needs, good job. Speech training takes time. You might also consider having her hearing checked if either A) it wasn't checked at birth, and or B) she has had a lot of ear infections. Sometimes speech is not clear because the child can't hear well, it is hard to mimic sounds you can barely hear. My daughter was having some trouble with this, but after she got tubes in her ears, she stopped getting ear infections and can hear us better. Her speech is clearing up. Good luck!
