My 3 1/2 year old is still babbling. He's in a special needs preschool and is taking occupational and speech therapy. He can say "mama" and "dada", but those are the only words. He can sign about 15-20 words. He can draw some letters and knows all of his letters in the alphabet. The only problem is getting the words out. Any suggestions?

Have conversations with to him like he is an adult but emphasize (without putting him down) taking time to say the right thing. A big problem parents have is talking to their children like they arent real people. And reading aloud to him at special bonding times (i.e. bedtime or after he wakes up in the morning) really helps him to improve his vocabulary in a positve way that has nothing to do with learning. He will think it is just a nice moment he can share with his mommy while learning the correct way to say things.
