Baby hates to be held. Reason for concern?

I have a question for you moms. I just don't know if I have cause for concern or not. I have a 5 and a half month old son. He is a happy baby. He laughs and watches his family. But he doesn't like to be held. He likes to sit on your lap. He likes to be walked around with if he's in an upright position. But hates to be cradled in your arms. He instantly starts squirming and fussing and won't look at your face. I just want to see if any other moms have had this and if it should be something if concern for me. I can't even hold him while he is eating. He wants to lay down to eat. What are your thoughts or experiences?

Thanks ladies. He is a super happy baby otherwise. He just tries wiggling out of your arms as soon as you try card dealing him. He's just so different from my daughter. Lol.

Sounds like a 5mo old independant little person! If he is willing to give you a quick snuggle enjoy it, they will likely get fewer and farther between. No need for concern. My older one was/is this way, after his brother was born he started wanting some hugs since brother always got them but otherwise he is verry independant.

There doesn't seem to be anythng wrong with that maybe he is uncomfortable being cradled. For a while my daughter wouldn't eat unless she had a blanket on her head. Every baby is different if he is a otherwise happy baby, I say just let it be and don't let anyone cradle him.

my son was the same way, he wanted nothing to do with being held once he got to 5 or 6 months old, he wanted to just be on his stomach and look around, roll and what not. now he is 20 months old and is extremely independent and still wants to do everything on his own, but when the time suits him, he's happy to just climb in your lap and cuddle for a little while, and he loves to give kisses. there is nothing wrong, he just might grow up to be and independent lil man.

My daughter is the same. Well exept when she's sick, then she wants to be held.... and sleep on top of me.

I can't tell you what is normal and what not. But all I know is that my daugter wants to see something exiting, do something fun... there is simply no time to be held! ;)
