I haven't personally used an InnoTab. I'd probably just go to a store that has a demo model and try one out. They're so cheap I would be concerned that they're really slow.

You could also check your library to see if the loan tablets if you just need it for a trip. Some libraries have also have Playaway View devices just for kids that come loaded with high quality children's programs.

thank you so much for your feedback. we enjoy doing all those things as well so we would only need it as emergency intervention. a tablet is such a great idea :) do you know anything about those innotabs that they have now for children ?

1. A portable DVD can only play DVDs and their battery life is usually lousy. Personally, I think it's better to get a laptop or a tablet that can show videos and do a lot more besides.

2. It's really better if you can find other ways to engage your son rather than parking him in front of a screen. Sing songs, tell stories, play games, listen to audio books together, find small toys he can take in the car... we have four kids and we've travelled a lot with them. I used to bring an ipod with cartoons on it for absolute emergencies, but we never got that desperate, and I've stopped bringing it.
