brushing my 14 month old son's teeth

My 14 month old son hates his teeth being brushed and he's not yet able to brush them himself,he holds his toothbrush and bites and sucks it then when I put the toothpaste on he puts the toothbrush straight into his mouth and then starts sucking and biting it again, then I nicely try to hold the toothbrush whilst he holds it too and brush a little bit but then he gets upset and closes his mouth and refuses to let me carry on,I've tried everything sitting him on my knee, talking to him and singing songs everything I've tried doesn't work?

Hi Melissa,
I had this issue with both of my boys around that age. I just did it a few teeth at a time; it took forever. If they closed their mouths and just would not open up at all, I would gently rub their little cheeks, toward the back of their mouths, and they'd open up for just a few seconds.
If there's some magic technique out there besides tedious coercion, I'm not aware of it!
Good luck; it'll pass! :)
