Car Seat and Booster Seat Question!

Hi! I have a convertible car seat that goes from rear facing, to forward facing to booster seat that using the seat belt. I have a 3 year old and it is starting to get hard to fasten the car seat buckles even though they are as loose as possible. He is not overweight or large so I don't see how its possible for older kids to even fit into it (It's a Safety 1st seat). I'm going to look up an online manual but I looked on the side of the seat and it didn't give any directions for when to use the seat belt/booster position at a certain weight/age/height.

Is it okay to switch to seat belt? What are the rules regarding this? I know the importance of car seat safety and am not trying to get out of this out of convenience. We kept him rear facing until he was 2.5.

Thanks for any help!

BTW, I live in Montana and the law only says:

"Children under the age of 6 that weight less than 60 pounds must be in a car seat or booster seat, explains the Montana Department of Motor Vehicles."

This isn't really helpful either since it sounds like you could put an infant in a booster seat and it be okay!

If you can't find the information online call your local police or fire department they may be able to clarify. I don't think we switched my son till 4 but if I had to do it all over I would of kept him in the 5 point harness longer.
