We just switched our 18 month old twins, and it went WAY better than expected! Naps are rough, but the nights are much better than we had even hoped. As for when the right time is, we did it because my daughter was just about climbing out, so that was the right time for us. I think it's totally a personal thing, dependant on both you and your daughter and when you feel is best. I read somewhere the average is between 18 months and 3 years, if that helps (I know, a huge difference in ages there!). Good luck!

we just transitioned our 21 month old to a day bed. We put it in her room and I had a whole transition plan to have it in her room for a while, then have her sleep on the mattress on the floor for a while then go to the day bed part. Well one day last week (We'd only had the bed a few days) she decided she wanted to take a nap in the day bed part and slept for 3 hours. She's been napping and sleeping through the night in it ever since. So much for my great transition plan. I think when they're ready they let you know. Maybe see if your daughter will sleep on the mattress on the floor, if she won't she may not be ready for you to convert the crib to a bed yet.

i think whenever you are comfy with it it is fine. My kids were both in my bed (never a crib) till they were between 2 and 3 then went inot their own bigboy beds (but still wander into bed with me some nights), I have friends who put their kids into either toddler beds or beds with a rail or a mattress on the floor when they were as young as 10 months (i have 7 ot 8 friends kids who were in big kid kids beds of one sort or another between 10 and 14 months with no probs with any of them). And i know other moms who won't put their kid in a bed till they are 3 or 4. So it really depends on your comfort level. Good luck :o)

I just did the transition to toddler beds for my 2 1/2 year old twind. They were beginning to climb out of their cribs so I felt for safty it was time for beds. They seem to be doing really well with it. Plus I wanted to have them in beds before I toilet train. I thought it was perfect. They understood what was going on and felt proud and like big kids in their new beds.
